Iā€™m getting that same thing on desktop. I wonder if the URL I added to the poll option is fouling things up?

Hmmm, Iā€™m a bit puzzled regarding the genre pollā€¦ I selected everything, but I cannot cast my vote?! Send hƤlp

I donā€™t think so? Otherwise they are wildly underestimating me (which I doubt).

I just read the first section, and it was weird, but nothing that would qualify as painful yet.

At the same time you donā€™t get the usernames hover any more when hovering over the avatars in the ā€œstandardā€ polls :scream:
Noticed that already a few weeks ago on WK but I thought that WK had hiccupā€™ed with the forums - now it seems that the update landed here as well. This change is very very unhelpful in my opinionā€¦

What does the number mean? Is it a rank (ie 1 is the best) or a score (ie 8 is the best)?

This is a ranked poll, I believe. So 1 is your top choice, 2 is your second favorite choice, etc. You can only use one number once, otherwise it wonā€™t let you submit.

Wait, no tie, then? Thatā€™s annoying.

People already have trouble picking a top 5. Good luck getting them rank every book or even just rank their top five in order, right?

Aha! That might explain thingsā€¦

But I must say I find the interface highly unintuitive without detailed explanations  I imagined I should select a number based on how much I like the options.

Sounds like an interesting option! Can you limit the number of non-abstain picks in a way? (And would that be necessary anyway?)

Oh but we would lose the percentage of all books, i.e. we wouldnā€™t be able to retire unpopular choices, I guessā€¦

If you select ā€œvotesā€, you can still see who voted for what with what rank. I feel like low popularity items would still be somewhat obvious?

Edit: maybe notā€¦

For the record, I donā€™t see a way to restrict number of Abstains.

I feel like the info given is very useful in very specific situations.

Iā€™m also not sure what determines a ā€œroundā€:

If this is truly ranked voting, it works like this:

  1. Count up all the #1 rank votes
  2. If one option has a majority, it wins (plurality does not count)
  3. If one option does not have a majority, eliminate the option with the lowest number of votes
  4. Count up all the #1 rank votes, except if the #1 rank vote for a user was eliminated, in which case count their #2 rank votes
  5. Repeat above steps until a majority is found

The first round works like a normal single vote system (using everyoneā€™s rank 1 choice), and each subsequent round takes place after one option has been eliminated. In the real world, this type of voting system attempts to reduce ā€œlesser of two evilsā€ voting that locks in a two party system because people think voting for a third party candidate that has no chance of winning is ā€œwastedā€. Now you can vote for a third party candidate as rank 1 and know that if/when they get eliminated you still get to vote for one of the two main candidates. Itā€™s done via a ranked voting instead of run-offs to make the process more efficient.

What would determine a round in this case? Would I need to manually close the poll? Would it kick in only if someone sets an end date? You may not know, of course; just wanted to put the questions out there.

Enjoy!! There are certainly some fun parts, I was overly negative. :joy: I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Important vocabularyā€¦

One of the cycles @seanblue mentioned (counting everyone top options). It doesnā€™t kick in here since 4 out of 5 people selected fantasy (so it won on the first round)

It should all work automatically, updating after each person votes like usual.
