Had to check the profile, Misaki is talking about the Tadoku ones.
The later volumes take stories from well-known authors that seem to mostly be in the public domain, modernize them and put furigana on them. But I think generally the readers are way too expensive for what they are.
Ah, in that case, unfortunately I haven’t read any of them. I know they’re some of the more popular graded readers out there, though, so there’s likely a bunch of people who could answer your question!
It looks like it’s going to be a very read-and-start-at-your-own-pace type of thing, so feel free to drop in whenever! Yet another book added to my crushing pile
I didn’t vote for it but I actually already own it. Not sure if/when I’ll read it though as it’s an informal read. I kind of need the pressure of a schedule to actually make time for things right now.
I could make a schedule just for you if you like?
I can add it to the OP and suggest people keep to the schedule if they can. I can promise to try and keep to the schedule myself, at the very least.
I love the confidence! “clearly ought to be enough”
Not that I would ever doubt the AI, but @cat I did draw up a schedule in the Spooky Summer thread that takes a bit longer than 1 hour 38 minutes (and 32 seconds). Just in case you’re feeling lazy, you know. It’s summer after all.
I’ve been reading 魔法少女育成計画 JOKERS | L36 (volume 7) for the last week and a half. About 40% done now and I’m enjoying it a lot more than the previous (two-part) volume. It’s so hard to compare each volume (or pair as is sometimes the case) since each is so different, and sometimes they just work better than others. There was nothing particularly wrong about the last volume, but this one is just clicking better for me. This volume is a bit long, so I won’t finish for another 1.5-2 weeks, but hopefully the quality continues.
Stopped Japanese Stories for Language Learners after the fourth story. I liked the first three, but the fourth was a slog due to lack of enjoyment. (The now-archaic kanji usage wasn’t too bad, thanks to the furigana.) I looked up a summary of the fifth story (in English), suspecting I would not enjoy it either, and dropped the book based on that. This contributed to my current burnout.
Volume 3 of 勇者のひざには猫がいる: A slight step down from the first 2 volumes, mostly due to the volume’s ending feeling like a weak cliffhanger, but still a ton of fun.
ずたぼろ令嬢は姉の元婚約者に溺愛される 1 | L29?? : Another entry in the “Perfectly cromulent read but no desire to continue” category. The final chapter in particular was a slog, though that was in part due to aforementioned burnout. I’m skeptical of that L29 placeholder estimate, too - I’m the only one who’s graded it and the 3 things I graded it against aren’t THAT high. (Vocab was the main issue I ran into here - there wasn’t as much overlap as I was expecting against similar titles I’ve read. Also, again, fighting burnout.)
Think I’ll pick up the 4th and final 勇者のひざには猫がいる next to ease myself back into things.
tfw you start up some easy-looking manga already in your library because it has furigana then you log it and notice the natively rating is about 8 levels higher than your comfort zone and you’ve only done about 10% in a regular reading sesh when you’re used to like 25-30%… oh well, I’m enjoying myself, guess I’ll take my time
Today (or technically last night) I read volume 6 of さよなら絶望先生. I’m mostly sharing this information because I wanted to show you guys this incredibly relatable panel from it.
