reading medium today, aside from that finished the second volume of めしぬま and got someone to try the 3 first chapters!! (they’re free on the site I added for it )
hoping I will get to 裏世界ピクニック since I only have it for a limited amount lol
Speaking of “free” manga, I read こっち向いてよ向井くん 1 today. Booklive tricked me into thinking that the whole volume was free, but it was just an extended preview of ~100 pages out of 170. And of course it stops at the worst possible time, so I had to spend 880 jpy to get the rest.
The story itself was okay (office romance/drama type) but nothing so special. I liked the drawing style too, but I’m mad they pulled that trick
I also finally started reading 東京かくりよ公安局. It’s been sitting on my desk for 3 weeks
that trick is so effective lmao
I had the same experience with 僕の呪いの吸血姫 , I ended up reading all the available volumes from then on
Well, kinda. It does feel super stingy, though. I ended up buying the one volume, but (mostly out of spite) I won’t keep going with the series. I feel like I might have otherwise (thus spending on the 4 remaining volumes rather than just the one).
Sounds like you enjoyed that series, then! What is it about?

Spite is indeed a powerful force of nature lol

it’s about this guy who’s a superstar of an anti-vampire police squad. He finds a lead on a vampire who’s rumored to protect humans and tries to get her free so that she’ll save people from vampires and they kinda end up in a weird co-oporation partnership.
@bibliothecary is your pfp from 魔法少年なつき×らびっツ by any chance??
I just started reading that and noticed you’re the first on the activity log!
Yes!
I read the first few chapters in English and thought “I must learn Japanese so I can read the rest”… The books are within arms reach, so maybe this is a sign I should start reading them?
Looks a lot like Momiji from Fruits Basket too! Usually when two characters look similar at least the eye color is different, but they are similar as well.
Oh, they do look alike!
Trying not to think about Momiji’s tragic backstory… ㅠ_ㅠ
So far they’re not too difficult so I can only encourage it
(Plus I get why you like it lol btw did you know that’s the same mangaka as the other manga I’ve read and mentioned earlier (僕の呪いの吸血鬼)??? That’s how I reached it!!
I’ve also started reading another work of theirs and it’s really good so if you ever feel like it I recommend browsing through things from this mangaka )
We did and I am way behind my schedule. (Not like we all didn’t know this was gonna happen. )
But I can bring きらきらひかる forward if the time is good for you.
Even more to add to my wishlist!
What are the books about? I have to say, it’s always fun to find out what books inspired people’s pfps, or just what inspired them in general.
I think your avatar suites you very well bibliophile; you always come across just as excited as our young rabbit there. ^o^
It’s like a parody of magical girl manga: the MC is suddenly forced to become a magical boy and fight the forces of evil who… want to kiss him? And his classmates help him with his missions, although he’s totally clueless. Cute, silly, and funny with hints of BL, it’s my jam!
it honestly reminds me of once upon a time fanfiction.net vibes where they would make the MC this cute innocent angel and everyone would fall for them
Welp, you’ve sold me. Definitely also going to try it out!
After much delay I’m finally caught up on book clubs I just finished 予言の島 | L35 and am waiting for the final week of 木洩れ日泳ぐ魚 and I will be book club free for a bit!
I actually go on a short vacation the week after next and I’m hoping to spend it lazing about reading books I’ve stockpiled and catching up on my dramas. I haven’t yet gotten very far into 秘密 | L30?? - if I’m honest it’s just not very interesting yet (currently 16% done). But I’ll still try to make progress on it! And finish out the last story of 嫌いなら呼ぶなよ | L34 as well, as I suppose that is another book club I’m quite behind in
How is 嫌いなら呼ぶなよ? I picked it up on my last trip to Japan because I love 綿矢りさ but since then it’s been sitting on my 積読 shelf of shame.
I have mixed feelings on it. It should be so good, but so far nothing has really landed for me. I’m probably going to end up giving it a 3. The wittiness is like おいしいごはんが食べられますように | L30 but without the way that text just flows. Instead it’s almost choppy, I suppose.
The stories are nice little ideas to chew on, but not much more than that, for me.
I loved おいしいごはん so that almost sounds promising, but… hmm, I’ll have to give it a read myself.
I’ve enjoyed pretty much all of what I’ve read from 綿矢りさ since a lot of her stories are just full of random and sometimes shocking developments and hilarity (my soul is black - I thought the colleague who liked baking from おいしいごはん deserved to have her cake crushed!) so my expectations were semi-high…
憤死 | L35?? by 綿矢りさ is another short story collection with three “horror” stories by the way and it’s an extremely solid underrated gem (Not that you need more recommendations or books from the sound of it )!
Happy vacation reading!
