What am I doing here? I’m not learning Korean!
Anyway, I just saw the Korean film The King’s Warden, which was neat. It’s a historical film about a young king who was overthrown and exiled. If you happen to be near a theater showing it I’d recommend checking it out.
It’s funny how my knowledge of Japanese (and knowing that the grammatical structures are similar to Korean) let me pick out a couple things from the dialogue.
- The sentence ending with “ka” seemed to formulate a question just like the Japanese “ka”.
- The sentence ending with “sumida” seemed to indicate politeness like the Japanese “desu”. (A google search indicated it might be even more polite/formal though?)
I understand that those aren’t the actual transliterations, but I don’t know Korean phonetics, so that’s just how they sounded to me. Still, it was cool that I managed to pick up on them at all.
