What is Best books for preparing for the JLPT N3

I took the JLPT twice last year and failed and I am going to try again this Dec.The reading is the hardest for me by far. Any recommendation on what to read for getting ready for it?

I at least did a little better the second time but am 20 points off from passing.

Tips are all so welcomed! (= ( I am also in Japan.)

thank you,

I don’t know about “best” books but I can tell you which books I read before and around taking N3:

My first real book ever: 時をかける少女 | L25

Fairly easy series aimed at young children: にゃんにゃん探偵団 1 | L17

Loved the anime but the book … not so much: https://learnnatively.com/book/1559816a07/

One of the easiest books around that are aimed at adults (plus it won the very prestigious Akutagawa prize): コンビニ人間 | L29

A bit more on the difficult side but I loved it: キッチン | L29

One of my all-time favourites, really heartwarming coming-of-age story: おおかみこどもの雨と雪 | L29

Has some dialect but otherwise fairly easy story for younger children: 霧のむこうのふしぎな町 | L26

Basically I don’t think it matters as much what you read but that you do read, and that you do read books! (Or other texts, e.g. Wikipedia, but no manga!!) Because at N3 level you don’t have time any more to mull over each sentence in the texts, you need to be able to just read a (simpler) sentence once and “get it”. Of course there will always be harder sentences that you need to reread, but the general sentiment should go in that direction.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the detailed help.

That’s awesome I will start with the easy ones. Will try to read them all before the test.

I loved the anime for おおかみこどもの雨 looking forward to reading that.

Yeah… you pretty nailed my problem, I have been mainly reading Manga and games. they are great giving you context and bite size reading but not a luxury you get on the test.
