completed “Features cats” with おじさまと猫 1 | L18
it was a short but lovely read, I’ll definitely be reading the other volumes of it later on.

First square filled! And of course, while I was at it, I had to make my card cute.
No reviews/ratings on Natively: グースバンプス 2 呪われたカメラ (グースバンプス 世界がふるえた恐い話) | L21
Finally I finished…my first bingo square: 数学ガール 2. Reading went smoother than for volume #1, but the contents had some gaps concerning strict explanations, well obviously due to the ambitious theme: Fermat’s last theoreme. In the end, even though the general idea came over well, Wiles‘s proof could just not be completely explained. All-in-all the book had less moments than volume #1 where I said to myself: hey, cool idea, so it ended up at “just“ four stars.
…and I started on three new ones, or eventually will during the week:
Book + adaptation - 沖縄で好きになった子が方言すぎてツラすぎる 1, the anime seems to be a 1:1 adaption of the manga, so the manga will be a good source to understand more of the Okinawa dialect parts. I am still undecided whether to read it as preparation or check of understanding. Btw: volume #1 and 2 of the manga are currently free to read (at least on Renta and only until 1/21).
Language related - 日本人の心がわかる日本語, these first two will kind of run in the background, together with the anime and the book club resp.
Curious title - 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱, this will be the actual book for the next weeks, then. If I want to read six more complicated books this year, I figured I should read one every two months, so better get started now. I hope this will become a new long term interest series for the future.
Finished 猫の浮世絵 「江戸の猫ぐらし」の巻 | L31 for the cats square. I liked it. I feel like I appreciate 浮世絵 more after reading the book.
I should continue that series at some point. Maybe I could use it for the “from someone else’s card” prompt
Released year of birth: 夏泊殺人岬 | L33
Non-human protagonist: 転生したらドラゴンの卵だった ~最強以外目指さねぇ~ 1 | L30
First bingo square!
I finished this book yesterday
I thought it would be an easier read and decided to go the extensive route, but I ended up having to tolerate a surprising amount of ambiguity. On the other hand, I’m currently doing duolingo’s lessons on having children and the book is about… having children. So it helped me recall some vocab.
It also was much shorter that anticipated, Ridi shows it at 53 pages, but the actual book is only 24 pages. The rest are drawings, I don’t really know what they’re from, sort of a gallery of various children’s drawings.
So all in all, a harder but shorter read than anticipated.
And that’s the “non-human protagonist” prompt done!
Decided to join in this year! Since I didn’t join last time, I changed some of the categories for ones from the 2024 Bingo list that looked fun to me. Hope that’s alright
Saw this challenge some days ago and found it interesting and fun, finally made my card, plan to fill it mainly with manga and some books, let’s go!
Also did my first square with Yotsubato!
I actually went ahead and read another sci-fi book on a whim, 당신을 기다리고 있어 | L31, but I’m putting this one under the “new Natively level to me” prompt! I was planning to do another one for this, but you know what, it just feels more satisfying to pick my first L30+ book finished for this.
1 | L19 was a cute read, and i will definitely keep reading the series.
0 | L33 and it was great! I was hesitating because I heard it’s horror and that’s not my favorite… and it has a lot of horror elements, but I loved it! I’m glad I finally read it. I’m putting it in the birthyear square.
Oooh, I just picked this up in the last few months! Glad to hear you liked it; I really want to start it myself.
I’ve been quietly working on my bingo card, so I figured it’s time I stop lurking and post it here. Maybe I’ll make it cute at some point.
Free Space: I’m using the first book I read this year, 暁のヨナ volume 5.
Past Book Club: I read the first volume of 夏目友人帳, which was a past WaniKani book club.
New users can only put two links in a post, apparently. But for features cats, I read
Welcome! Nice of you to join in
Welcome @jezzieangel!
Ooh I spy Rojica and Rakkasei! That’s been on my wishlist for a while
Genre you don’t usually read: 우리들의 식탁 | L17
I’m not very sure why I haven’t read more BL so far, I certainly have read my fair share of fanfiction, so I might as well get into published works.
Anyway, this book was my favourite that I’ve read in Korean so far, because it hits just the right balance between comfortable enough language level, and interesting story.
L16 Non-human protagonist
L18 Book you keep hearing about
L17 Genre you don’t usually read
A nonfiction for this one, I don’t usually read nonfictions in Korean, so this is a perfect fit for “unusual genre to me”! My plans for what I was going to do for each square have already been completly derailed so early into the year, so we’ll see how the rest of this bingo goes
Here’s my card (I went all in and attempted to write the goals in Japanese):
My plan:
Other easy ones should be Read a book whose level you haven’t read before, Science fiction, and Second in a series (I can always read the second
I’m not confident I’ll be able to make bingo, I only started reading last year and as any Japanese learners can tell, the books I have planned are all beginner books so I’m still reading quite slowly. The easiest will definitely be the leading diagonal.
I dare someone to complete Contains cats with 吾輩は猫である!
