I feel like the “ten lines at a glance” one is the only really obvious one that might need to be changed in English; imo the idiom doesn’t really make sense out of context in English, and “quick reader” doesn’t sound all that impressive for getting a blackout.

Maybe we can abstract a couple just a bit? What do you think -

Oooh, those are so cute! I love Inkling in particular. :eyes:

New goal: get one bingo and one bingo only so I can be an Inkling

I know, right? I got my blackout last year and was happy to have it, but Inkling is so cute.

Therefore I thought it‘d be nice to be able to choose in the range up to the rank you reached. People might actually stop reading to not get too high a rank, or feel punished for reading too much.

or assign them all up to whatever your max is…then you can select what you want

no punishment nor discouragement for going past inkling…

though I really love page runner… makes me think of the old lode runner game but :books: instead of :money_bag:

Are you sure that this is possible? I couldn’t find information telling this explicitly, instead they always talk around the bush, using unclear self-invented or re-defined terms on top of this.

not sure what you mean? Maybe I am misunderstanding something but I thought these were simply discourse titles assigned…and if they were simply titles you can have as many as assigned and pick the one you want shown…I don’t have any on natively and only one on wk…but if you have any this option appears in your preferences and if more than one you can click the drop down and choose to display it

So thinking this is what they were… assigning the titles up through whatever your maximum bingo was would let you pick off any of them …

if they aren’t titles and I’m wrong… oh well…not the first time and won’t be the last

At least in Natively’s case, I believe titles are attached to badges (the title is just the name of the badge), which are then given to users. We can assign multiple bingo-related badges to a single person, for the record, which would then give them access to whichever title they want to use.

But if I’m understanding @Naphthalene correctly, they were thinking of essentially using just one set of badges going forward in order to avoid re-doing the same work every year (and for general badge maintenance; five new badges every year would stack up quickly), and if you got the same one as the year before, it would stack like the “Nice Reply” ones do. So in a system like that, it’s not as meaningful to be given “your rank of bingo + all below” or “choose whichever badge you want from the ones you qualified for”, since there’s the possibility you would never get a new title afterwards (if you blackout your bingo), or your badges would be an inaccurate record of your bingo wins (for those who care).

It does feel pretty weird to explicitly aim for a specific badge under this system, though; calling it quits after a single bingo and never updating your bingo board again would remove the fun for a lot of people.

What are everyone’s thoughts, in that case? I think I personally would be okay with being allowed to choose which badge you’re awarded from the ones you’re qualified for, as I’m not that concerned with my badge record for bingos, but that’s just me. If we didn’t allow any badge-picking or whatever, it could possibly motivate some interesting bingo boards (for example, wanting only one bingo but still wanting to fill out your board throughout the year), but that’s going to really depend on the user, working for some and being a deterrent for others.

For some reason I was under the impression (maybe mistakenly) that the English badge names were by bingo level not one and done…

Don’t really care either way personally what happens… Badge or not I’m going to read :man_shrugging:

What do you mean by this?

Ah, I thought the opposite, actually. If the badge is not generic (like the current ones), you should get the relevant one (“I did a blackout in 2024”). If they are generic, you should get all that apply (if you did a blackout, you necessarily got 1, 2, 3, and 4 bingos as well). They would stack, so you would still get a count of how many times something happened (just not the specific year)

Edit: I also think that’s what @shuly was referring to.

Aaah, gotcha! Well, I’m happy with getting all the ones that apply as well. Might be worth setting up a poll for general opinion?

honestly don’t care too much either way…

do whatever … I have pirates to read about … :pirate_flag:

Based on the few messages considering getting only a few bingos on purpose, I think “getting everything” is better, but sure, poll time

  • Get a set of generic badges (no year, stack)
  • Get one custom badge (mentions year, can be in different languages)
  • Some other idea I will describe below

Whoops, posted at the same time @Naphthalene, haha.

Haha yes, same timing. I see you got the option for picking the level you want, which I didn’t include. That being said, it’s possible to choose which one you display, so I feel it’s more convenient to get all that apply?

I figured I’d ask in case people had really strong opinions about it. :person_shrugging: I’ll repost my poll since it’s a bit different than yours.

How would you like bingo badges distributed from now on? (Results may be decided differently depending on whether badge is stackable or not)
  • You only receive the badge for that level of bingo you achieve
  • You receive all badges up to the level of bingo you achieve
  • You pick the badge you receive from among the levels of bingo you achieved
  • Something else

I think that should be all the options we discussed. Please post of you think there’s a different/better way we should consider. “Bingo level” refers to the number of bingos you achieved.
