Hey guys, perhaps it’s been answered in the CLAMP main thread, but I have to say the timeline/universe of CLAMP is still a bit confusing to me… do I need to have read anything else before starting Babylon? I am thinking of joining the club (even if a bit late), but I don’t know if I should have any previous knowledge.

I don’t think so (but happy to be corrected). By publication date, Tokyo Babylon is pretty early, so there’s not even a ton of prior works to read :joy:

For most of their series, I think each is a standalone, but you get Easter eggs by having read the other series where they pull characters from. Tsubasa Chronical/xxx Holic might be different bc they ran concurrently, but at the time I was reading Tsubasa Chronical and didn’t even know that there were tie-ins (having been scared off of the first volume of xxx Holic bc no furigana), so I doubt even there it matters all that much.

For the most part, you don’t really need previous knowledge for any of them. For series like Tsubasa, it certainly might enhance your enjoyment since you’ll get certain references, but for the vast majority they are standalone.

I’m a bit delayed, around a week or so; the chapters are fairly dense and long sometimes, so I also struggle to keep with the pace considering I also have loads of other bookclubs running simultaneously. A 1-week break between vol 1 and 2 would be nice (if others also agree).

Seems they haven’t been on for a little while. What do our club members want to do?

  • Wait for p.james99 to come back
  • Set up informal club threads for the remaining 東京Babylon volumes
  • Consider 東京Babylon done club-wise and move onto a scheduled CLAMP学園探偵団 club
  • Something else

Note that options two and three aren’t necessarily exclusive; I just didn’t want to get too complicated with the poll.

I don’t have a strong opinion in particular; I wouldn’t mind waiting an extra week to see if they return (I am still not done with vol 1 but about 90% through). I am still deciding if I’ll ready the next 2 volumes, probably yes but at a slower pace, I guess an informal club could be quite nice.
