Spoilers should always be hidden using spoiler blur.
When discussing a specific section, please mention where you are in the book, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting, but please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week.
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That’s a welcome part of the discussion too, and other readers will be happy to help.
Done. Man, this chapter packed in a lot. So it’s confirmed that 羅漢 has prosopagnosia; very interesting. I think he’s the second fictional character I’ve had pop up who has that condition. It was also quite surprising that 羅門 (I hope I’m writing that right, it’s ルオメン) is related to 猫猫, as her great-uncle.
I’m still trying to sort through all the information we were given here. 猫猫’s mother was in an unenviable position, but her plan didn’t seem all that well planned out anyway, honestly. 羅漢 doesn’t seem like the most reliable of guys. I’m curious what kept 羅漢 away for three years; him coming back and finding all the letters from her was a bit heart-breaking. From what I could tell, 羅門 stopped by at some point, saw all the letters, opened one/a few, and figured out what was going on?
Poor 壬氏 has added yet another obstacle in his (perhaps) quest for love. I’m looking forward to more 羅漢/猫猫 situations! She’s going to have her hands full for sure…
Ah, I wasn’t sure I caught the meaning of the paulownia box 羅漢 sent 猫猫 at some point in the past with a rose, which she returned to him in this chapter. Was that something that was previously discussed and I’m just forgetting, or do we not know yet? And speaking of roses, I’m glad the one on the cover came full circle; I’ve been wondering if that illustration tied into the story or not.
@Belerith I’m probably going to try to see if I can finish up the book this week; I’ll post the last thread early if I do so.
