If it had actual werewolves I would be a lost cause. As long as there aren’t known to be any literal werewolves I can probably control myself and not buy it preemptively …
I’m feeling pretty confident in putting up a new poll at this point, so I think I’ll go ahead and do so, using what we brainstormed before: unlimited votes for this poll, and in the case where voter participation is once again low, we’ll go with the top book if it’s got at least 4 people interested. (If there’s a tie we’ll have a tiebreaker.) Thank you all for your thoughts and help!
Sorry, didn’t mean to reply to you there @Biblio.
For those voting: please keep in mind whether the book is physical-only or not. 神獣たちのふしぎな力 紫禁城の秘密のともだち | L20?? is, off the top of my head, for instance.
Random question but when would we be likely to finish the voting and then actually start reading the chosen book?
If there isn’t really a time frame that’s cool, it’s just there’s only one book on that list that I have and it’ll be at least a month til I can look at buying any more but if we’re unlikely to start by then, there’s a few on my list that I could vote for and get a small order if they are picked.
Whoops, I did forget about the actual book start date. Normally I’d say we’d start the book on November 4, but given there’s no built-in cooldown with reading another book, that may be too soon for folks.
- Nov 4
- Nov 11
- Nov 18
- Nov 25
- Sometime in December
I’m good with anything - personally I’d like to read as soon as possible, but if I actually had to pick one, I’d prefer whatever date has the maximum number of people able to participate. (Which probably isn’t the date which will get the most votes in a “When would you like to start the book?” poll, but those things are hard to figure out.)
Since Gon the fox cub just got eliminated from the Wanikani book club, it would be nice to see him win here
Maybe I shouldn’t have clarified the werewolf thing, as it seems that you’re now controlling yourself to the point of not even voting for it :crying_werewolf_face_emoji:
I picked books I have in Japanese and French to increase the number of things I voted for. I can’t imagine ppl would get mad if I read in a non-Natively language
I know, I know. I’m trying to be conservative with my votes and it is so sad.
ETA: for this round of voting!! There is always the future!
We do have unlimited votes this time around, keep in mind. Unless you’re conserving to just books you already own, etc.
Unless this vote is also a werewolf game!
“The rules are simple: identify the werewolf disguised as one of the nominations and decide by vote. However, if the chosen book is not the werewolf, that book and all people who voted for it will be eaten by the wolf…”
But okay, I’ll try to be patient then and hope for it to win next time!
That actually sounds pretty fun, not gonna lie.
Well, y’all are gonna get eaten, I think I have a pretty good idea which one the werewolf book is
Suggestion: adding a line in the nomination format for whether the book is a translation or not, and if so what the original language is.
Any particular reason for this? Just want to open the playing field for reading in a different language?
Oh, it just affects my vote a bit if something is originally written in Japanese vs not, right now my preference is to vote for stuff written in Japanese. I checked the nomination posts, but there wasn’t somewhere in the nomination format where being a translation was specified.
Not sure how this would function with readers of other languages (do we have anyone reading in Korean currently voting? ), as it seems like with the Japanese learner majority all the nominations are Japanese.
Maybe just a field like Original language: xyz would be ok.
This is turning out pretty well, with both top candidates having 7 votes each. Last time we only had 8 voters in total. Seems like the hiatus was a good call!
(Also I can’t get over how different both top candidates are. And there’s only one single person who voted for both!)
