They get longer as they go like Harry Potter I guess…

Looks like the layouter for the spines forgot to add a portrait on book 7

Guess it’s time to break out the markers and colored pencils and DIY it myself.

I’ve voted. But I probably won’t read it like I’ve read 十分で読めるこわい話。(Translating every single sentence)

Maybe I’ll read it extensively (even If I don’t understand everything), try to recognize the grammar points and pick a few words that I want to learn.

That sounds like a good plan! It’s good to move away from translating every single sentence at some point. As usual, if you have any questions while you’re reading, or are wondering if you understood something, feel free to ask in the club threads!

Voting closes in about a day, and we still have a 3 way tie. If there’s still a tie when the poll closes, I’m planning on following a recently adopted tiebreaker rule from several WK book club, where the oldest nomination wins by default.

The oldest nomination of our top three is this:

If you don’t want it to win, feel free to creatively adjust your votes! If you do want it to win… do nothing :slightly_smiling_face:

Is it possible to remove votes? I thought they can’t be undone.

Yeah - you can click on the “< Vote” button at the bottom and then either:

  • change your votes, and then click on “Vote now!” again or
  • click on “Undo vote” to clear all your votes and make it as if you never voted in the first place.

Nomination Post

The nominator of this one didn’t participate in voting, so I won’t ask them to run the club. Is anyone else interested in running the club and posting the weekly threads?

:sob: I really want to read this, but I don’t own it! Which according to my own rules means I am not allowed to participate. Boooo. (To my rules, not the book choice.)

Don’t follow the rules that make you unhappy, follow your heart that tells you to join the book club! :sparkles:

(Also you can easily fix the “don’t own it”!!)

Awwww, cmahhhnnn…… it’s just one little book…. (Got any bookwalker coins? Maybe it doesn’t count as buying something new if you use coins…)

Or …

Read it for free 10 minutes at a time…???

P.S @soggyboy I have 6 measly coins.

If any of you are interested in joining a choose your own adventure book club, where club members vote each week on where to go next, head over to Wanikani and check out the Survival Escape Book Club :crocodile: :tiger2: :cactus:. We are voting on the next pick in the series. Please join in the vote if you would like to participate in the next club! The series is rather gentle at Natively level 21: たったひとりのサバイバル・ゲーム! | L21

Hello, Children’s Book Club friends!

I’ve been percolating on the future of this club for a little while, and have decided that I would like to suggest moving this club to the Wanikani forums.

Here’s my reasoning.

Audience:

This club is a good fit for beginners who would like to read novels, but need a stepping stone before starting adult novels. The WK community has a large number of beginners who always need something to read, so I think this club would be a better fit for the demographics of the community there.

No equivalent club on WK:

The WK book clubs skew towards manga clubs, and their novel clubs are more advanced. I think that this club would be the perfect step between the BBC (reads mostly manga) and the IBC (reads adult level novels at a slower pace).

Engagement on Natively:

Engagement in this club has been pretty low lately, with weekly threads only getting a handful of replies, and only a few active readers per book. I think, due to all the reasons I outlined, that it would potentially get more traction while also filling a need on the WK forums!

What’s the plan now?

I can begin drafting a home post for the club on WK, and then we can start over with a fresh slate of nominations and get a new voting cycle going. Of course, everyone is welcome to nominate books from this club’s list if you would still like to read them. I think it would be a great opportunity to refresh the nominations and get excited about this club again while potentially drawing some new members!

Let me know if you have any questions (or complaints)!

I am active on both forums, so I’d like to give a bit of a discount to my opinion compared to those people who are just here, but I agree it’d be a good fit for the community over there and likely have quite a bit more engagement.

I dropped out of our last two books and felt pretty bad because I was a significant percentage of the commenters

Agreed, but I’d recommend that you don’t market it as a “Children’s Book Club” then, but as a non-manga book club for beginners, with children books, light novels and regular novels being all fair game as long as they fall into a certain difficulty range.

No idea what would be a nice club name/acronym though, since “Beginner Book Club” would be ideal, but is already taken by what is factually mostly the Beginner Manga Club :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm, Beginner’s Novel Club? I’d rather the picks stay within the current range for this club (under L26), which would probably exclude most Light Novels.
