If you remember I’d appreciate it, but it’s not all that important. I get broad strokes what they’re making, but I think I remember them mentioning rope in this chapter and I was like …あれ?

I was thinking they were going to string each of the pieces more like a mobile, which seemed like a lot of work.
I guess my idea of the scale of it is mostly what was off. Now I can see why they had to ask the restaurant for empty cans.

Yup. It’s not my favorite style, but I wouldn’t say I hate it either. I definitely like the LN illustrations a lot better rho

i subscribe to the idea a book should stand alone as a story even within the bounds of a larger story spanning multiple books, so from that perspective introducing more characters at like the 70% mark is a bit weird. (Yes, i know this was a webnovel first or something)

I fail to follow the logic I’ve seen books that adhere to your standards (plot is wrapped in a single volume, part of a longer series) that introduce characters in the epilogue. 70% is way early (and regardless, it has no impact on whether the book is standalone or not)

Indeed it was (and is still) a web novel. The book does work as a self-contained story. 70% mark is a bit later than you’d expect, but I think it works well here, personally.
I also don’t subscribe to this, and not really sure why it should be the case, even for a book 1. That seems unnecessarily limiting (though I understand it as a reading preference).
Perhaps, but sometimes being a bit weird can be a good thing. We’ll have to wait and see whether it works, I guess.

I don’t mean literally no new characters can be ever introduced after some arbitrary mark. I mean like… important cast members, people whose interiority is interesting, etc. My guess is these characters are just here to illuminate more of Asanagi’s issues, but whatever, it’s just a reading preference.

I read the classroom drama scene when I was really tired… So I don’t have anything else to add to that discussion

くじ引きで決まった以上はやるしかないが、ちょっと人前に出るだけでこんなに疲れるとは。会議の進行は朝凪で、俺はほとんどサポートだったのだが、やはり長年のぼっちによるスタミナの損耗は思った以上に深刻だった。
がんばって、まき!! 
「だから、今回のペアが朝凪で本当によかったよ。これでもし天海さんとか、新田さんとかになっちゃってたら、俺絶対にやっていけないし」
This seems a bit dramatic. You’d have been a bit stressed, but you’d have adjusted. Especially given how much Yuu is considerate of you, it would be fine. Nina would probably be a bit bossy, but you’d get on fine (tho to be fair, it’s not like he knows her well enough to know that)
This whole thing with Umi having straight up lied about the くじ, plus the teacher just going along with it, is a bit 
Like idk it’s sweet that she went out of her way for him, but also a bit weird/creepy the way she did it

What? Like all the boys in the class - and a ton outside - are into her already. What room is there for もっと, and why would she even need that??

So basically once he got picked, she was dead set on doing it together with him, you’re telling me. Yup, totally normal, platonic impulse. Nothing to see here…
