Flesh & Blood novel - Informal Club - Now Reading!

Chapter 5

Ok, the difficulty stays okay aside from all the medical horrors mentioned there.

I would die so fast there, damnnn

Ok, Vincent ended up being useful, but the whole manipulation thing, torture possibilities and horrible physical punishments do make me feel like cozy spy life with Vincent might’ve been a better way to go.

Actually… ACTUALLY Kaito, you know who was nice to you? A person you know and you could turn to if you’releft in this city? The doctor! Why didn’t you consider staying and working for him and maybe slipping back through a tunnel if it becomes available in the same location, buddy?

So anyway, pirate life starts against Kaito’s will, he’s fully dependant on Geoffrey (especially psychologically) and I got pretty scared when he raised his voice at Geoffrey when, well, we have just discussed horrible punishments one goes through after talking back to a superior.

Oooh, very cool to know! Thanks nikoru!

Clearly he’s not hot enough. (I want you to know this is a better idea than anything Kaito’s come up with, honestly.)

Chapter 6

Well..that escalated quickly

Another really fun chapter. I liked meeting more of the crew, I like that we’ve set up some interpersonal issues that are probably going to carry through for a number of books..

And here I was thinking we’re finally off to meet Drake, and instead Geoffrey made Kaito sob with his kisses. Not really off to a great start, these two. I wonder how or when Kaito decides that he will also succumb to Geoffrey’s good looks.. or not.. we did also meet Vicente and he also seemed to be awfully handsome

A question: I either wasn’t paying attention or misread what exactly Kaito was helping Geoffrey get dressed into..he was talking about tying a bunch of knots and I can’t figure out what it could have been

I’m not checking my book as I write this, just going off memory, but it was probably Geoffrey’s shirt. Clothes in that time period would have generally been secured via ties, to my knowledge, not buttons, so I imagine he was helping tying up the back and sides Geoffrey couldn’t reach.

Finished  What a cool story, and I must admit, I also started into volume 2  I’ll definitely keep on reading this series.

Chapter 7

It’s cute how Geoffrey lets Kaito sleep while riding on the horse. Good to see that Kaito can take a break. It has been a long day since waking up at Thomas’ place.

It’s kind of hilarious how Geoffrey is comparing himself to the non-existent Tanaka-sama. Just thinking, would be awesome to at some time meet some other Japanese people :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

 We finally meet Drake and the first thing Kaito is telling is “Uwaah, he is so small”:rofl: Good thing he got not killed for that and that Drake seems to like his honest attitude.

Aaah, I don’t like the scene that Drake and Geoffrey are having fun and teasing Kaito with torture :see_no_evil_monkey: But I’m astouned how good of an actor Kaito became. He decided for the most likely 占い師 story that Vicente was kind of presenting to him before. I like how he is going with the mirror story as it meets the rumors around Drake already.

Chapter 8

Hehe, Kaito is insisting on clear water to clean himself. And Geoffrey later mentions that this feels like queen treatment

Cute that Kaito asks for Geoffrey to lay down next to him so that he doesn’t need to sleep alone.

Epilogue

What is that? I don’t want Vicente to try to kidnapp Kaito later

Congrats! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I bet you’re gonna love volume 2, it’s a lot of fun! I definitely recommend it to all who’ve been enjoying volume 1; vol 2 starts with the crew out sailing in the middle of a storm :eyes:.

Finished as well!! (Well the main book, I’m on the fence if I’m going to read the short story at the end or not).

I also enjoyed this a lot, although I’m gonna go read something that doesn’t require 10 lookups a page next
I’m definitely coming back to this series, but maybe not for a couple of months so I can forget how many words I have to look up by then

Congratulations, shitsurei! For anyone reading the physical version (might just be @soggyboy?), the short story shitsurei’s referring to wasn’t printed in that version.

@Makochou and @shitsurei (+ anyone else who’s finished/a chunk of the way in) how was the difficulty compared to what you were expecting?

As as whole, it was probably easier than I expected. But chapter 3 and some of 4 almost did me in

There were still a lot of lookups per page, even in the easier part of the story, but if this is 35 I should be reading more green books :eyes:

I’m only on page 131 (45%, start of chapter 5), but so far it’s not as bad as I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, level 35 feels very fitting and it is hard. But I was mostly worried that 1. There would a ton of archaic Japanese in the spoken portions (to match the time period), or 2. There would be a lot complicated syntax and grammar. I can handle doing a bunch of vocab look ups, but if the writing structure is too complicated for me, I’m going to miss out on too much for reading to be enjoyable. Everything grammatically so far is stuff I’m comfortable with. I’m not coasting by any stretch the imagination (my personal goal is 5 pages a day, and it takes a lot of brain power), but I’m not struggling as much as I was prepared to either (my original goal was 1 page/day haha).

Chapter 6

Oh, is that another pretty boy?
Hello, attentive and sharp Eyepatch-kun.

I zoned out on the clothes description, somehow it’s too much effort for me.
I got we were tying something like shoelaces but with 50 holes and it was draping and whatever.
And then monologues about “Codpiece” (thanks google pics) but yeah, no.

And uhm mmmmm hm. I don’t know what bothered me most about this… consent… scene.
But it was many things from different angles.
Ugh. Many things.

With the caveat that I didn’t actually go back to check my book, any difficulty that comes to mind for ch. 4 is the beginning, like shitsurei said. A particular character is telling a “story” about their family, and once that’s done you should be in the clear.

Awesome, that’s great to hear! I feel like that’s the best case scenario for an L35 book for everyone; if it’s more depth of vocab than depth of grammar, then it’s a bit of an easier time adjusting.

Chapter 7

So I felt too bad after chapter 6 so I went ahead to the next one.

Ugh, I hate that I understand Geoffrey’s mixed feelings. Especially that anger about Kaito having a way too easy life. Yikes.

This was the best thing after the “short” comment:
Kaito: He’s very handsome, but more dignified than Geoffrey
Geoffrey: Oh yes, because I am so frivolous
Kaito: ??? I mean he was wearing black clothes and seemed so refined, calm and collected
Geoffrey: Did you just go for my clothes? Say that again!
Kaito: ???

Are you jealous already, Geoffrey?

Okay this escalated again. Good to know that from Geoffrey’s POV threats of torture are enough to break Kaito and he’s not going to follow through. Unfortunately it’s also enough to break me, so…

Fortune teller seemed like a genious move for a second, but good luck doing it full time when you get asked about stuff that wasn’t in whatever book you’re referring too. Horrifying.

Oh, look at that, you’re being protected even if it will cost Geoffrey his life. He likes [the ways he thinks he will be able to use] you [for] now.

Re: chapter 7

I was honestly a little mad that I went from chapter 6, imma force myself onto you Geoffrey, straight to, chapter 7, oh this precious, fragile little angel, I will do anything I need to do to protect him Geoffrey. His stupid rationalizations worked on me, that jerk

More on ch 7

Yeah, it worked on me too because it makes sense. It’s not… nice, but also not improbable.

The thing is, I’m totally in “ok, pls, somebody protect me already” mindset Kaito’s displayed before, and I don’t care anymore who it is as long as I can hope they wouldn’t change their mind tomorrow.

And I can’t hope for that with the things like “and now tell me where is Vincent right now” looming over Kaito’s head.

I mean, at least the men around Kaito are very pretty.

Wait what do you mean it’s one more chapter and then epilogue?!?!

Don’t panic, there are 24 more volumes to come  and counting…
