If you like the concept and are okay with barely an inter-character interactions or dialogues you might like them.
If you want to try it out without wasting too much time, you could read my personal “all-stars stories only” version of Book #1, which would be:
Introduction (because it introduces you to the world)
冬しか買えないアイスクリーム and/or ??金魚(赤)(because they are good short stories)
記憶消去ボタン (because… ah, you’ll see)
エピローグ (because it’s very good)
…and skip the other short stories for now. You can read them later if you want, and there’s no problem in reading those other short stories out of order or not at all.
I’m not too happy with Book #3 so far (if it stays like this it’s definitely back to 3/5 stars), but maybe it’ll end with one or two banger chapters again and I’ll be like “Guess I’ll have to get Book #4 after all.” Again.
Ah, and I can recommend the author’s other series that I actually like a lot better, もしもの世界ルーレット あったら便利? “スペアの体”の使い方 他 | L22. I also have a review comparing those two series if you’re curious.
I’ll soon prepare the schedule table. For those with the physical edition: Do you have chapter page numbers for me? A photo of the table of contents, for example?
What’s the page number that the あとがき ends on? 219?
Also, for the first chapter break:
After the first image, there’s a paragraph that ends on そこにあったのはホテルなんかではなく、おれたちが通う中学よりもはるかに大きな洋館だった。.
After the second image, there’s a paragraph that ends on 伯爵、オリさん、今湖さんは階段を昇り、暗い上階へ消えてしまった。
What pages are those on paragraph endings on? Neither the images nor the sentences feel spoilery to me, so you don’t have to worry about that while looking it up.
I added the schedule. That’s gonna be a longer second week than I wanted it to be, but hopefully it’ll be alright - and the two weeks afterwards are shortish, so hopefully good to catch up if necessary?
I don’t really see any other good ways to break it though.
Currently:
Week 1: 11 pages
Week 2: 17 pages
Alternative #1 with a rather unsatisfying first week:
The first 4 weeks average out to 12 pages per week. So, imo ppl can just take a couple of days of week 3 (or start a bit early in week 1) to catch up with week 2. And since week 3 and 4 both deal with chapter 2, it might even be better to be able to move directly into week 4 by being a bit “late”.
