Welcome to the thread for 하얀 밤의 고양이 | L15 :full_moon:

Here’s our new Absolute Beginner Book Club Book!
If you’re just dipping your toes into native Korean books, here’s your chance to read along with other learners and ask all the questions you need. If you’re finding this thread when the club is already done reading the book, please post your comments, thoughts, and questions anyway! People will still be around to answer :blush:

All discussions will take place within this home thread, so make sure you use spoiler tags and indicate which part of the book you are going to refer to ahead of the tag to show respect to your follow-readers an any possible late-comers.

:bookmark: Reading Schedule

There seems to be interest in making this a quick read, so I say we officially divide the reading in 3 weeks, and everyone is free to go faster or slower than that.
Week 1 starts on February 16th, week 2 on Feb 23rd, and week 3 on March 3rd.

So I’ve read the first third, and… what a grim start. :disappointed_face:

One bit that really got me was the mum selling all 아연’s picture books. :sob:

The part that got me was: going home alone and watching TV until mum comes home, and then she is still lonely :cry:

Final week! I’m all caught up.

Ending spoilers:

I kept waiting for an adult to find her and help her, WHERE ARE THE ADULTS? And then when one shows up they just kick her out of the library…

If you’re looking to have your faith in humanity restored, this might not be the book for you.

As for the language, the scene with the cat got poetic and harder than expected. A Korean kid would probably understand it just fine, as for me I had to look up a few things :smiling_face:
