So I’m kinda confused by the pacing. I’m reading the LN on bookwalker. What page exactly is the start of 1-2? I’ve only finished the prologue so far. Edit: I found it

Also the novel page lists it as having 280 something pages but my digital copy on Bookwalker has 373. I may have to add that this is the first time I’m using Bookwalker
Edit2: wait, Bookwalker LNs just have more pages than print copies to make up for the space, don’t they?

You can even change the font size and with that the number of pages.

Oh thank you. Now it all makes sense lmao

The physical book has 268 pages for further reference.

And yes, pages in digital books are unreliable, that’s why I went with the chapters/sub-chapters, so we can all end on the same place regardless of what medium we are using.

The page totals in the table is calculated from the physical book, removing full page images.

So after reading the prologue + chapter 1-1 I have to say it’s pretty entertaining so far. I really like Kazuma’s narration and his comments on everything.

Also I’m surprised because I had already started the first volume in English, before I started reading LNs in Japanese only, and it really bored me in English for some reason. Kazuma’s narration is just so much better in Japanese and overall the wording, etc is just more fun to read. Which makes me think about how a translation can make or break something. Though in this case I don’t think the English TL is bad, it’s just that has to be different because otherwise it’d have to be a literal translation which of course isn’t how translating novels works at all

I’ve finished Week 1’s part as well..

Probably in part because I’m following the audiobook, but I didn’t find it as overwhelming as the first time.

I might try to do double reads as a trial, first without audiobook and next with it, to test it further.

As for the contents, I enjoyed them, as I did with the English novel. Probably this one was more entertaining the way it was narrated.

Not sure how long will take me to get used to Kazuma’s VA, but Aqua is spot on.

I’m really enjoying this so far! This is my first audiobook (and actually my first LN, but I’m using the audiobook) and I’m really enjoying how much personality the VA brings to the dialogue. I’m missing some details and words but having watched the anime 10 years ago is helping me to visualize what’s going on and keep up.

Prologue/1-1

Aqua’s screaming was so high pitched and ear breaking lol. The bit with the skill points was a little hard to understand, but I understood enough to know Aqua>Kazuma in terms of aptitude lol!

Don’t worry about not being able to fully understand every little thing that’s being said or every word. Reading your first novel is hard. It’s important to keep in mind that it’s fine as long as you can keep up with the main story.

Exactly this. If you try to understand every word you will burn out.

This blog post always comes to mind.

I’ve thankfully read a few novels prior, このすば is just the first LN, and it’s pretty good for that so far!

I bought the LN at book off at some point long ago, and it’s just been sitting on my shelf for years now. I haven’t actually seen the show (or obviously, read the book), so I was excited to read it with the club.

Week 1

So my biggest issue up front is that I haven’t found an isekai before that I liked, and have pretty much written off the genre, but I really enjoyed this first week!

Aqua smack talking and then getting her comeuppance by him taking her to the new world was pretty funny. And I like how he now has a goddess but she’s like “I dunno anything about here, why would you expect that from me?” It feels like there’s going to be a good balance of both characters driving each other crazy

Anyway I looking forward to reading more. Esp because at some point I digitally bought another 10 or so of the books when they were on super duper sale.

Week 1

My main thoughts are “this is exactly like the anime” and “this is really easy for a fantasy LN” (compared to L34-38). I’d say it matches 勇者になりたい少女と、勇者になるべき彼女 | L29 in ease of reading so far. I’ve been listening with audio, along to the kindle book, but I only really look at the book when I’m not sure I quite got something.

I’m impressed so far with how light/flowing it’s been. I don’t feel like we’re too deep in Kazuma’s head. We’re not getting info-dumped or given lots of intense description and background and such. So it really feels “light” so far. It doesn’t feel tedious, it doesn’t feel overly base or like our protagonist is an immature middle schooler (cough DanMachi cough), etc.

Also I like that Kazuma squarely knows he’s an otaku, but is neither super down on himself (unlike almost every straight romcom protag), and also isn’t super full of himself (cough Re:Zero cough). He also doesn’t take shit from the goddess character when she’s being mean to him.

Sry for all the comparison to other stuff… just, not much has really happened yet

Anyway I enjoyed it pretty well, and looking forward to week 2.

It’s so overflowed of Isekais that it’s easy to get a chain of bad ones.
There was a pont where I was actively avoiding them too.

Oh wow! I assumed everybody in this club was fans of (if not had seen) the anime. I’m really looking forward to reading your thoughts on everything.

I actually haven’t watched the anime either… I rarely ever watch light novel adaptations because I’d rather just read the novel if the story is interesting

Anyway let’s see how the story continues in week 2

Alright, week 2. I hate to say it but I don’t really like めぐみん, I wish they had just ditched her :sob: I really like that カズマ アクア duo though. I have to say that I didn’t like the latter half of this week’s part that much but let’s see how the rest of the volume will go.

I’m obviously biased, but the characters grow on you.

I didn’t like one of the characters that are to come that much either, until their respectful arcs.

Also one of my favorites is Aqua’s Kouhai (Eris) which had a brief sneak-in during the previous week with the conversation with the priest.

Konosuba was my introduction to isekai, and still is one of my favourites, because the characters are so great! They’re all so useless and yet useful at the same time which keeps the story interesting.

I doubt this counts as a spoiler, but I’ll hide it anyways (blurring didn’t work well, so in a details tag it goes)

Megumin best wizard.

I do miss the long (improvised) explosions incantations from the anime.

I’m having a blast reading the book again. I’m reading the physical book while listening to the audiobook. I still don’t understand everything but it is a difference of night and day compared to my first ‘read’. I even understand a decent bit when just listening.

Looking forward to next week
