The parts about 男女差別 and the fourth rule made me lol. Otherwise this was pretty expected. Still hoping for something truly deranged to happen, but we are running out of pages now.
She only thinks to mention that she had super vision all along now

Week 7
21: Oof not a promising title.
… for a sec I thought it was going to be in reference to making a mess with the kids from the other school, but I guess the person who helped is one of those following them.
22: so, okay, I guess there’s something special about her eyes. Are we having an unreliable narrator?
24: okay, the plot is a lot wilder than I expected 
When he said “there’s a fourth rule”, I immediately guessed what it was. It wasn’t really hard
Ah, we have a little bit of cliffhanger for once.
Yeah, you’d think that would have been relevant before…
That would explain how they were able to get all those info about the events from 10 years ago It’s a bit suspicious that the only “detectiving” they’ve done was offscreen. At the same time, why tell her in that case…

Well, I mentioned it in the bingo thread already, but I just ended up finishing the book, since there’s not much left. I took notes, so I’ll just post them in their respective weeks.

Alright, I’ll finish this week too then.
For a normal sized LN like this one my preferred pace would really be 4 weeks. Kinda was holding my tongue but thinking about suggesting we speed up since it was only us two keeping pace anyways.

I would have gone faster as well, but that allowed me to just sit down every week, read a bit, and then just go on with my life. Honestly, the blanks in between probably increased my bewilderment as the story progressed, as I think my spotty memory made things make even less sense. That was a fun experience overall
Plus, I still hoped that @Biblio was following along. And for all I know they are, as long as we don’t check! Schrödinger’s reader

I fell behind on everything… do not ask what my apartment looks like at the moment. but I absolutely will finish this book and am looking forward to reading the comments then. Sorry for abandoning you guys. I am just not made for bookclubs but I keep joining them because I do genuinely enjoy sharing the experience through other ppl’s impressions…

The longest week! But we are getting close to the end.
二十面相 reference!
I just love Manabu’s randomness.
Not much happened this time, honestly. It was smart to force the main character to use her eyes (after learning that the others are unaware of them; moving to the front of the car to let the characters talk “freely” should not have worked honestly), but that’s about it.
Well, small cliffhanger again before the finale! (edit: which is pointless considering the last of schedule :p)
Week 9
Just started reading this section but I guess Sakiguchi can change his voice? Then it literally was what Manabu said: he gave some insurance… and that’s where the trap was.
Reading a bit further, it was indeed.
Well, that was still a fun epilogue! I didn’t expect Manabu to be so young…
Still, she did manage to find a way to join the club without Manabu having to re-evaluate the rules Also… egg? I’m sorry
Overall, I had a fun time reading this book. It was mostly thanks to the club, though. I can’t really see myself reading that on my own. At the same time the pace of WTF events was high enough that maybe I would have just “fell forward” through the whole thing just to see what could possibly happen next.
With all that being said, though, I don’t plan on continuing that series, and I am indeed probably done with that author (although that book didn’t feel as annoying as the 物語 series).

Week 8, Week 9
Things I found remarkable as I read them:
- The line about a mobile phone being the utmost proof of an individual somehow tickled me. In older works this would be like an unique pendant or something.
- Namaashikun finally succeeded in his character assassination.
- When she drank the fruit juice: “おいしかったが、吐き出すほどじゃない。” This turned into my favorite running gag in this book.
- The president phone scamming the kidnapper reminded me of that scene from Terminator 2. “Your foster parents are dead.”
I found the climax pretty weak, the epilogue was great though. I also liked the bit in the afterward about breadth-first dream fulfillment. It made me reflect on what dreams I had at various stages. When I was MCs age I was reading Anne Rice novels so the goal was to become immortal lmao.
I really didn’t like how the plot hinges on her being an eye witness and that somehow mattering while everyone else just knowing about the incident doesn’t matter.
Maybe this is still setup for my gaslighting theory that will be revealed in a later book, but I doubt it at this point.
The book was alright. To me it was not deranged enough, it started out strong but then became too formulaic. Also the Nisio Isin style of rambling didn’t really come through here which is a shame. Only the cook and MC did it a bit. Usually I like fiction focused and to the point but this guy is really good at random wordplay and references.
I wouldn’t have read this book without the book club cause of the school setting but it was fine. 3/5
I won’t continue the series but I will read other books by the same author. 悲痛伝 | L39?? looks properly deranged. Also クビキリサイクル 青色サヴァンと戯言遣い | L36 was pretty good so I’ll continue that series too.

That was such a good theory too. I was absolutely convinced that you had something…
I was not a fan of that setup, honestly. Like come on, why would spit things out if they are insanely good? But I agree it was a nice callback.

Since I set myself a deadline, I actually caught up and finished. It was… okay. Nothing to write home about but also not a waste of time? I won’t continue with the series as the author just uses too many words for too little story for my taste.
