If you could get any anime adaption what would it be?

I thought this could be a fun topic. If you could get any anime adaption what would it be? No restrictions, so any source material is fine, and new season, first adaption, or reboot are all fine.

Here are my choices.

Continuation:

  • Chihayafuru seasons 4 and 5 to finish adapting the manga. The first three seasons are so amazing and I really want to experience the rest of the story in anime form instead of reading the manga.
  • Finish the adaption of やがて君になる. I always thought it was weird they never made a second season given how popular the manga is.

Reboot:

  • New Aria adaption. The Aria anime is fine (it was good enough to get me to read the manga), but the manga is far better both in storytelling and art quality. I’d love to get a reboot with modern art/animation quality and adapting the manga more directly since the story flows better in the manga.
The anime is beautiful and I liked it so much that I made the manga the first full series I ever read in Japanese. But the manga only adapts a few volumes from the middle of the series, so I’d love to get a full adaption from start to end.

New adaption:

The manga tells a serious story about a topic that’s usually used for gags, and seeing it adapted could be really interesting if they get good seiyuu for the main roles.
  • 現実もたまには嘘をつく could be interesting to see as well, though admittedly with the short chapters it might be tough to adapt.

I’ll think of some more stuff later. :joy:

1 | L27 We could get all five volumes in one season, since shoujosei never gets more than one season these days. Just imagine a coming of age tale about the human-ness of art with beautiful 田舎 backgrounds. It’s actually criminal that there haven’t been more anime adaptations of Higashimura’s work.

L29 It’s Shounen Jump so we’ll probably get an anime eventually, but…

Praying to the anime gods that the upcoming シャンピニオンの魔女 | L26?? anime does well, so we finally, finally get a proper anime of 学園アリス 1 | L28 that adapts the whole dang manga and is targeted at the proper age demographic. AND THEN someone will actually translate the end of the manga into English!! :triumph:

Continuation:

  • Akagi - Ended abruptly because they caught up to the manga. And the manga took a very long time to finish, but now that it is finished, they gotta finish animating it.
  • Kaiji - Cowards decided part 3 would be too inaccessible so they did the Tonegawa spinoff instead. I can’t complain too much about how good Tonegawa was, but c’mon, do part 3. And 5. You can skip 4 though honestly, 4 kinda sucked. But whenever part 6 is done you’d better animate that one too.

Reboot:

  • Koe no Katachi - I know people have a lot of opinions on the movie. I love it, in fact it’s my favorite movie, I think they did a fantastic job adapting it to fit into 130 minutes. But I’d also love to see a longer television adaptation that can include everything that didn’t fit in those 130 minutes. Normally I don’t really care about reboots when they’re just mostly the same thing, but you got me thinking about this category and this came to mind as one that could be sufficiently different.

New:

  • Yotsubato! - I am well aware that Azuma has said he doesn’t think it would translate well to anime. I disagree, and I want to see it.
  • Kikuri Hiroi’s Heavy Drinking Diary - Bocchi the Rock season 2 finally got announced. I am very happy. But once season 2 is done, what will I watch next? Well, season 3, obviously. But then what? They should do the spinoff too so that I can have even more BTR content!
  • Tetsunaki no Kirinji - If you couldn’t tell by my top entries, I like mahjong. I’ve read almost every mahjong manga (that I could find translations of, one day I’ll be 上手 enough to read the ones that aren’t). Kirinji is my favorite non-Fukumoto one, and I like it because it’s a very refreshing change of pace from the amount of bullshit that usually happens when characters can draw whatever tile the author wants them to draw. I love that it shows the perspective of a high ranked online player who’s been conditioned to play extra defensively (it’s straight up satirizing Tenhou!!!) suddenly having to adapt to a more aggressive meta in IRL parlor play. Akagi is still the GOAT because it’s so good at playing up its brand of insanity, but for anyone who actually plays, you’ll get a kick out of Kirinji for how real it is.

Yona season 2. We were robbed :unamused:

New:
Some studios could do some magic with the art style.
Adventure Time anime.

Continuation:

  • 青い花 - they did such an incredible job with this. It’s a shame it never got a second season
  • 灰と幻想のグリムガル - while the plot suffered b/c they were trying to end the story, they expanded the SoL aspects, in a way the novels desparately needed
*私の百合はお仕事です - they stopped before it got to the good parts
  • Snow White with the Red Hair - the story had grown so much since back then

Reboot:

  • 暁のヨナ - we’re all hoping that when the manga ends they’ll decide to (my hopes aren’t very high, but still). Especially since all the main cast’s VAs are still involved when they make drama cds, and they’ve made them for arcs far past the anime. So like they’ve already got solid voice actors for the unanimated parts… I’d say continuation, but it doesn’t seem like Studio Pierrot has any interest

Nice to see I’m not the only one who thought of Yona here

New:

  • はなにあらし - this seems like such an obvious choice,
  • Asumi-chan is interested in lesbian brothels - it has enough of a plot, and is much more interesting and tasteful than the Android one, imo
  • ギャルメイドと悪役令嬢 - it’s one of the more interesting and fun takes on this genre. Unfortunately it only made it to 3 manga volumes, so not sure if there would be enough to work with
| L25 - interesting premise & story with great character development & humor

I agree this would be a great choice, if done well

Continuations switch animation studios sometimes, so studio interest isn’t really a limitation.

Either way I’d definitely be interested. I really liked the first season.

I would like to see more 3月のライオン, 銀の匙, and yes, HUNTERxHUNTER.

In terms of new adaptations, I think 北北西に曇と往け would be gorgeous and haunting in the hands of the right studio, and I know ミステリと言う勿れ has already gotten a live-action adaptation, but I think given the art style it could be really fun in animation.

Also, my total pipe dream is to see more ながべ stuff animated. とつくにの少女 got a very abridged adaptation, and it was gorgeous, but I would love to see a fuller adaptation, and I know it won’t happen but it would be fun to see something like ウィズダムズのけものたちor モノトーン・ブルー onscreen.

I want a full adaptation of that too. Or at the very least, for someone to license the OVAs for streaming :sob:

My main hopes have already been realized, as とある科学の超電磁砲 | L30 will get a fourth season, which currently is in production.

Also 葬送のフリーレン | L29 will get an S2 start of next year. Let’s hope it can be logged.

I also have hopes for an S2 and many more seasons of 狼と香辛料 merchant meets the wise wolf | L34.

On my magical wish list I would then put the spin off series

And I definitely support the wish for an よつばと! | L17 anime adaptation. So far there only exists a 10 seconds scene, produced by NHK.

Reboot:

  • Index S3 (esp ww3) arc: I’d be hestitant to ask for a reboot of all of Index since it’s so long and the story will never get finished if they do (though arguably S1 could also use it when compared against the Railgun anime), but especially the final arc of Index S3 suffered a bit from their desire to wrap up Index OT in one season to coincide with their Index NT/Index GT marketing push.
S2: As we all know, The Promised Neverland was a great 1 season anime and it’s such a shame it never got a follow up.
