So the plan this morning was to watch the first three episodes of すばらしきこのせかい The Animation S1 | L30??, but once I booted up my work laptop and looked at my day’s tasks, I realized pretty much all of my morning was going to be dedicated to a boring cut-and-paste job, so I elected to multitask and have すばせか on in the background while I worked. I’m sure my comprehension dropped a bit, but it wasn’t any lower than me actively paying attention to some shows, so I managed to work through 6 episodes guilt-free. 
I’ve still got a couple more hours of boring work to do, but my brain has started to collapse due to the multi-tasking, so I’ll put the show aside for now and pick it back up tomorrow.
Feels really good to have listened to a bit over two hours this morning, and I’m halfway through the show!

すばらしきこのせかい The Animation S1 | L23?? finished! It ended up being a surprisingly decent adaption of the game, which I was quite happy with. I’d like to continue my game adaption watching going with デビルサバイバー２ THE ANIMATION S1 | L30??, but it doesn’t appear to be easily available to me without paying money, so I’ll have to come back to it. Current plan is to focus on listening to 最弱テイマーはゴミ拾いの旅を始めました。 | L24, as I’d like to finish it before the end of the month, and start 中学聖日記 S1 | L26 sometime during working on that.
On a separate note, I’m pretty proud of myself: finishing すばせか has allowed me to reach the goal of doubling all the Japanese TV shows I’ve watched since starting learning the language, all in about half a month. 
Let’s see if I can’t double it again.

So I caught up a little bit this week. thanks to finding a podcast that has the right level where I can listen to it while doing certain other activities (cooking and walking, mostly) and still get a decent level of understanidng, without being boring.
Still a little bit behind target for 30 hours, but less of a gap to close now

This week wasn’t as great as I’m spending a lot of time on the road (I can’t focus on listening to Japanese and driving) or visiting family in hospital at the moment so less time to focus on listening (less time for everything atm). Still 3 hours wasn’t too bad this week considering.
Mon 13th - 3 x Naruto episodes (18, 19, 20) - 72m, Japanese with Hikari 1.5x speed - 40m (real time)
Wed 15th - Japanese with Hikari 1.5x speed - 30m (real time)
Thurs 16th - Japanese with Hikari 1.5x speed - 40m (real time)

We’re getting closer to the end of January and OOF, I was way too optimistic about this month. I am nowhere near where I want to be with listening. It’s not that I don’t have time: my work hours have dropped significantly from November and December, so I have plenty of time. It’s probably because I spend too much time reading the news and also because internet brainrot is too enticing plz halp
However! I have been doing more reading this month and my reading skills are improving! January hasn’t been a total wash (yet); there’s still time to turn things around!

Hi guys; been a couple of days since I last updated. Been laser-focusing on 最弱テイマーはゴミ拾いの旅を始めました。 | L24; I’ve got maybe 2 hours left in the book? A bit less? The goal is to wrap it up tomorrow (mostly just because I’m inpatient and like seeing that nice “Finished” status in my profile, also because I want that bingo square), then I’ll start 中学聖日記 S1 | L26 after. Not sure what book I’ll listen to next and when I’ll do it; I like the thought of audiobooks, but I have such a hard time maintaining focus on them. Maybe once I’m at a higher level of passive listening comprehension they’ll be good, so that I’ll be able to sponge up more as I listen to them while doing chores/exercise/etc.
In other news, either today or yesterday I made my month goal of 30 hours! So I’ve decided to go ahead and add my stretch goals of 36 hours and 42 hours in the OP table, to see if I can hit either of those. 36 looks likely, but we’ll see with 42. I also had a belated realization that I’m traveling quite a bit this first half of the year, and there’s no way I’m going to want to listen during those times. I’ll have to go ahead and mourn the loss of my productivity now… 
(I’ll probably be desperately in need of a break by that point anyway, haha.)

Started 中学聖日記 S1 | L26 this morning; the first episode came out of the gate running. 
I’m really glad I’ve got subtitles for this; I’m still missing stuff even with them, but it’d be dire without. Lots of people talking over one another, lots of voice types I’m not familiar with.

So this week I made a lot of progress, a big chunk of which was because I rewatched Zombie Land Saga. Did this one raw with no subs, partly because I’ve rewatched t many times before so I’m familiar with the plot, and partly because I want to push my listening skills a bit more this year. It went pretty well. Episode 8 still makes me cry, it’s one of those anime that’s so much better than the premise has any right to be.

Last week I managed just under 3 hours worth so won’t be making my quota for the month. Also found out that the podcasts I have access to in Japanese are limited, not by source but by the fact I’m not accessing them from a VPN. Not sure why I didn’t think that would affect anything like this but it makes sense, especially with some of the issues I’ve com across recently online.
Just hoping I can keep access to my audio books.

Finished at 22/40 hrs. Not that surprising btwn the lack of interesting seasonal anime, and the fact that I’ve been almost exclusively reading マリア様がみてる | L29 - which has no audiobooks. Both of this things will still be true next month, but I’ll leave my goal the same anyway.

Alrighty, the month is pretty much over for me! How did I do? I had an initial goal of 30 hours, and stretch goals of 36 and 42 hours. Honestly I wasn’t sure if I’d hit 30, but I somehow managed my top stretch goal of 42 hours! I’m going to aim for the same goal hours in February; just 30 will make me happy. It’s consistency, after all.
I watched a good amount of TV this month, listened to a chunk of podcasts, and listened to one audiobook. I’ve really been enjoying watching TV, but I can really only do that on days I don’t need to go into the office, and they’re starting increasing our in-office days this year, which is worrying for my listening future. I haven’t found anything I can reliably listen to at the office and not get incredibly distracted doing something else at the same time; I’ve been trying podcasts, but I have to have some other activity to help me maintain focus, and my job doesn’t offer many low-brain power options. :S Could do the listening when I get home, but that assumes I’m not dead tired…
I don’t know if I want to listen to any more audiobooks yet in February. They not only require me to be doing something else in order to concentrate, like podcasts, but they’re looong, so it has to be an activity I can go at for a long time. I’d like to start rotating book + audiobook into my routine, so maybe I’ll think about that in February…

I managed another 30m of Japanese with Hikari on Tuesday (28th) and finished the last of the beginner stuff. There’s some stuff I plan to go back and rewatch though none of it was especially new except a few vocabulary words.
I want to practice the shadowing sections and the vocabulary sections again.
That, alongside everything else I managed to listen to this month brings my total to:

I didn’t complete my 20h goal but considering everything that’s happened in the last month, I’ll take it as a win.

Well, I tried my best but I managed to make half of my Japanese and German goals and didn’t touch Korean at all. For February, I’ve decided to focus more on listening every day and not having a set quota for listening. Maybe this approach will be better for me?
