Got through 8 pgs of マリみて in lesson today… which I guess is in part cuz we had some digressions to look up weird vocab or other stuff… but still a bit surprised it wasn’t more. That said, getting through 8 pgs of this feels somehow more meaningful than 8 pgs of 裏世界ピクニック. I’m still clumsy with speaking (当たり前よ), but feel like I was able to communicate some things a bit better/more fluidly in general.
Recent watching:
- リコリス・リコイル S1 | L29 - spotty comprehension, but could follow overall. Decided to start manga
- ソードアート・オンライン オルタナティブ ガンゲイル・オンライン II | L29 - spotty when it gets to more technical stuff, but could follow overall, since it’s an action show… surprised I don’t hate it so far
- 時々ボソッとロシア語でデレる隣のアーリャさん S1 | L26 - switched to subs, and very glad I did
- 灰と幻想のグリムガル S1 | L28 ep 1 - been a while. Still needed subs for understanding
- アオのハコ S1 | L30?? - comprehension solid, not perfect
- Ranma ½ S1 | L30?? - solid, except when I space out/don’t care
- 桜Trick S1 | L20 - pretty solid comprehension, no subs
- ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか S5 | L29 - terrible comprehension without subs. Definitely gonna wait till those are out
- シャングリラ・フロンティア S1 | L30 - seems like it will be similar to 痛いのは嫌なので防御力に極振りしたいと思います。 S1 | L27 in that I can get by well enough, even without catching all the game stuff… anyway, I’ll see how it goes I guess
I think I’m coming to the conclusion (at least for myself, right now) that watching things with subs, or listening to audiobooks w/ text is always more optimal and beneficial, unless it’s at a level where I already understand almost all the vocab. So mostly that covers watching things I’ve already read closely. Not to say that there isn’t benefit to textless audio - but vocab acquisition far outweighs any audio recognition benefits, at this point.
Recent reads:
- 〆切前には百合が捗る | L25 - easier than reading the LN of course, but still plenty of lookups (especially food lol). Still, feels simple to read. I definitely prefer the LNs
- 百合姫2024年11月号 | L25 - I finished the 2nd half of this finally, and the series I had left felt way easier to read this time.
- 桜Trick 3 | L22 - pretty comfortable. Plenty to look up as always. It’s making me itch to reread NEW GAME! | L25 (both Manga Time KR)
- わたしの百合も、営業だと思った? | L28 - going much better than the first time. I’m a little past where I left off. There’s still occasional sentences where I’m kinda lost, but overall feels like I can just read it. 0-15 lookups per page, with the most common being 5-7. So that’s not so bad
- A lot of the lookups were the same as the first time I read, but some were new, and some from the first time were fine now
I’ve been reading various random easier yuri stuff too, and I think that has been helpful overall.
October Listening Challenge is quite far behind, and so far all my hours are from anime eps 
… the two audiobooks I have rn (神様たちのお伊勢参り | L30?? and 義妹生活 | L30), I’m probly gonna drop b/c of difficulty and motivation… but we’ll see I guess 頑張らなきゃね
