ドクターストップ came from フルーツバスケット (1) | L27 , according to my flashcards, and ドタキャン from 美しい彼 | L31, apparently. I read FB quite a while ago, so I’m surprised it’s stuck as well as it has.

I tag my flashcards pretty extensively, one of those tags being any books I originally find them in and any books I feel the need to re-look them up for. Helps if I want to go back and study hard words for a re-read or for a sequel to a book it’s been a while since I read like 薬屋, not that I reviewed any….

Ahh that’s smart. I used to have them in named decks, but tagging makes more sense. I’m flashcard averse these days anyway, but it’s kinda cool to know/remember where things came from

Yep! I’ve been doing them either daily or on and off as real life demands since about 2014. I still try to review them daily nowadays, although I suppose I don’t really need to if I didn’t want to. They’re pretty much just an ingrained habit by this point, and I’m always finding new words I don’t know and would like to retain long-term.
I am a little more picky about what words I make into flashcards these days, though. Good example: I came across 喀痰検査 earlier today, and have decided there’s probably no need to worry over memorizing it. (The 喀痰 part, at least.)

Ahh where on earth did you encounter that? I learned yet another new English word from it (sputum… Well I guess it’s Latin technically)
検査 is one of those words I repeatedly forget bc it’s similar to some other words I learned around the same time, and was lazy about, on WK.
Maybe I should make a deck for “words I repeatedly forget” (よく忘れてるの言葉？). どうせ I probably wouldn’t stick with it, even if I did.

Character A is in a hospital, and that’s one of the tests they were running on them, haha. I also had to look up “sputum”, haha; I kind of wish I had a list of English words I’ve learned from Japanese.
I don’t have a deck as such, but ones I have to keep looking up over and over have a lot of book tags, so it’s a bit sad whenever I have to add more to them. 
I wish I had a good example; flipped through my flashcards but nothing popped out at me.

Personally, I’ve seen that word in English before, I just never felt the need to look up the exact definition and would just happily gloss over it as some technical medical term, haha. Just figured that this time I should do my due diligence for my JP book, haha.

I randomly started reading 葬送のフリーレン | L26, after stopping book 1 a few months ago (the beginning is as boring as the beginning of the anime). Skipped to book 7, but I kinda feel weird not doing everything in between, cuz it means I don’t have the relationship built up with the writing (even tho I know the story) and artwork. I know the pacing slowly gets better, so maybe I’ll go back to vol 2. Or maybe I’ll drop it again, bc why am I starting a new thing right now?!
よく言えないけど、interacting with the language (particularly parsing the grammar) feels similar to when I started reading 暁のヨナ. Anyway it’s at a perfect level for me, in terms of reasonable amount of lookups + new/weak grammar patterns. So maybe I will stick with it.
On the other hand, my physicals of ささやくように恋を唄う | L20 just came, so I do really wanna reread those. The physicals are so much nicer than digital too (to be fair, I had been reading fan scans for some of the volumes)

Kinda feel the same, in the anime I didn’t mind so much, I like a peaceful anime, but reading it again with the same pace, it’s feeling really sluggish. I hope the later volumes will be more interesting in that I hope that there will parts I haven’t seen yet (or remember maybe).

It’s one of the few anime for me that really outdoes the manga (at least what I’ve read). The visuals and soundtrack really helped compensate for the pacing, since you had something stunning to enjoy along the way.
From what I’ve heard, the manga and anime are basically identical, but I think it will be interesting enough for me by volume 3, when Stark shows up. I feel like Stark & Fern’s faces in the manga look ever so slightly more childish, in a way that’s very fitting too (they’re teenagers after all)

Read 3 vols of ささこい yesterday. It’s so great!! Very easy read, but also still had to look things up, and occasionally check translation, ムカツク 
Still though, for the most part it’s just really nice, and the art is sooooooo gorgeous. Really happy with it as a physical manga purchase Also just getting to a point where I really just wanna purchase everything physical
I’ve been stress-procrastinating too much lately, so not as much reading. Not good, but I’m trying to get myself to at least procrastinate in Japanese (like twitter, or JP fb groups) more, so I get low-key reading practice. Next week should be better, I hope?

Finally made a JP-only reddit account. Had to turn off recommended posts, bc even tho I put the content langs & localizations to JP, it was still giving me a bunch of EN stuff.
Wish I had an easier way to find JP subreddits, but it’s not like there’s a shortage of content. In case it’s useful for anyone, these are the ones I’ve found:

I started in on volume 2. Stark actually shows up pretty early on. It hasn’t felt boring/slow paced the same way vol 1 did fwiw
