August 4
Tsundoku score: 17* (sigh. rereads don’t yield points.)
But! I’m excited to be rereading Nozaki-kun! This manga was such a challenge for me when I first read it. I managed to keep up with the offshoot club for four volumes before I hit a wall and dropped out. It’s still not extraordinarily easy, I probably have at least one look-up on every page, but it is SO MUCH easier than it was before! (I was able to read the whole volume in just a week!) And I love these characters and all their wackiness. There’s also a lot of queerness which is accepted unconditionally by many or all of the characters, which I appreciate.

Lessons
New segment!
I’m realizing that I don’t just have to rebuild my study routine, I also need to redesign it. Because! I’m taking a group lesson where we read 魔女の宅急便 with the teacher! One of the homeworks is that we can record a minute of us talking about each of the questions in our materials. And I am SO BAD at speaking! So I definitely need to do that homework in order to have a fighting chance in class. I tried to do the recording today and listened to it back … it took me 2 minutes to say what I was trying to say, and probably 45-60 seconds of it was just “えええっとおおおお”. (I re-recorded it and managed to get it down to about 65 seconds.)
I’m really excited for this class, I think it’s gonna give me the opportunity to make tons of improvement in my speaking and also in my understanding of what I’m reading. (I already learned a whole new way of using が … !!!) …
But ...
I am also feeling like I maybe accidentally took on more than I meant to recently because on top of medical care which requires lots of appointments I am taking this class, going to tons of music sessions (usually two every week), trying to start bouldering (fun and good for arm and hand strength!) sometimes after work, needing to do my weightlifting exercises for arm strength so I can keep holding my instrument up at aforementioned sessions, needing to do significant exercise two or three times a week in order to manage my health condition, umm, also go to work and do my job … There’s many more things I’d like to be doing, but these are just the ones that are really on my radar to actually do.
I don’t really know how to manage all that besides just trying to get as organized as I can. I’ve been writing in and looking at my paper planners tons.
Anyway, I guess that means I have to be a bit flexible and more accepting of “good enough”. For now.
How do I make that not sound like a really ominous way to sign off this log?
