Was オレが私になるまで back in stock or did you order proxy?

It was via proxy in Cdjapan. Probably Mercari search. They currently have 2, 3, and 5 in stock

Gotcha. Shame they can’t just get it properly in stock.

Got my order (first time) from Surugaya. Everything came generally in good condition, beside one bizarrely folded obi, though I feel kind of lucky it was mostly fine since it was in a huge box for just 6 manga.

  • 隣の君が一番かわいい | L24?? (two volumes) - This I actually could have bought new physically or digitally, but figured I’d add it for cheap since I was ordering other stuff anyway
  • きみのせかいに恋はない | L27 - A doujin that is only sold digitally on Amazon. When searching for things to buy on Surugaya I figured I’d try this with no hope it would actually work, yet to my surprise it was available! I actually didn’t even realize it was a doujin and could have physical copies.
  • 欠けた月とドーナッツ 1 | L24 - First volume is out of stock on CD Japan, so I figured I’d get it to try out and buy the rest new if I like it
  • 父とヒゲゴリラと私 | L24?? (two volumes) - First two volumes appear to be out of print, so I got those and will buy the rest new if I like it

I added the Suruga-ya link on here. Surprised to see someone mention it.

隣の君 looks cute!! I need to read ドーナッツ eventually - hope you enjoy

It’s been on my list for a while, but I wasn’t quite happy with the digital quality and lack of sale, so I put off buying it. Glad I did since I found it physically.

I have to finish it at some point (I got bored/distracted midway through, and jumped to who knows what else. Maybe I’ll buy a physical copy too… mainly on principle (cuz owning a physical manga about asexuality would be nice)

3 weeks in Japan. This is about 10k yen worth of books. :face_with_peeking_eye:

I might still buy more, if I find stuff from my list, but no random books anymore… (or so I say…)

The important question for flying home is how many kilograms

I have a long holiday there in Spring next year and am similarly hoping to stock up at Bookoff…

Oh, hey, I see you found a copy of ミス – I have a soft spot for that because it’s the first Akagawa book I ever read.

I can still carry it, so it’s fine. :face_with_peeking_eye: (All in all we could check in 4 pieces of luggage at 22 kg each. Weight is not the issue.)

The 笑う警官 was also your rec if I remember correctly.

Yes, I think I’ve recommended 笑う警官 here somewhere.

I haven’t figured out my luggage strategy yet – I get two cases plus carryon on the flight, but because I’ll be doing a lot of train travel when I get there I don’t really want to take a big suitcase…

Sending luggage via 宅急便 works amazingly well - even sending it to the airport for pickup is an option.

This. And I have a folded duffle bag in my luggage for if I run out if space. Anything I need for the next 2-3 nights goes in my backpack or the duffle - depending on my plans. Has worked well on all my travels so far. Also saves you from having to deal with luggage on crowded trains and stations with no escalators (or elevators).

Uhm… About that ‘might’…

I recognize a ton of these!! I am curious how you will like ララピポ、御不浄バトル and 二木先生. They are typical books that I like but I think they are quite polarizing. :joy: Such a good haul! Looks like a lot of amazing stuff.

Got my werewolf survival game book for the children’s book club, and another random children’s book that I found when I was doing random browsing. I liked the cover and I also like being a trailblazer and reading random stuff and adding it to Natively. I didn’t realize until I got it that it’s published by Kumon (flashbacks to my childhood), it might be kind of interesting to look into Kumon books as learning materials since they’re meant for native speakers but are still leveled. This book is only 100 pages so I’m thinking of keeping it in the back pocket for doing some kind of book in a day challenge, maybe during one of the WK readathons.

The physical version’s cover looks nice!

(I got it from Rakuten so it’s available digitally there too. Not sure why it wasn’t linked on the page, so I just added it.)

Hmm, what kind of duffle bag? I’m having trouble imagining one robust enough to trust to airline hold baggage that doesn’t also take much space when folded.

I’m not sure the 宅急便 approach would work for my trip – I have eight or so stops planned four four days or so each.

My usual train tour luggage is one airline cabin baggage sized suitcase and one 24 litre rucksack. (And do laundry multiple times during a trip…)

60 x 33 x 30 cm with 50 liter capacity, it folds down to 25 x 35 cm (2-3 cm thick). It has so far survived 4 flights as checked in luggage with 0 tear and wear.

My particular one is no longer on Amazon but apparently it was less than 20 EUR.

I just make sure I don’t pack fragile things or pack it too heavy. So probably around 7-10 kg, mostly clothes. The heavy books go in the suitcase. This time around, I won’t even need the duffle because I didn’t really buy anything but books (and snacks) and since I came in with basically a half empty suitcase, all the books and snacks fit.

Luggage forwarding is not a must, but it’s a tiny luxury for me, so I don’t have to carry so heavy or fight with the locals for a space on the public transport. :face_with_peeking_eye: I do see tourists with large luggage (even when it’s clearly written on the outside to please not bring luggage on the bus.) travelling but it doesn’t look very fun (and the elevators/escalators - if they exist - always seem to be at the other end of the station (my travel companion has bad knees, so we avoid stairs if possible).
