[Poll] Korean Book Clubs

Do you have a specific book in mind? :slightly_smiling_face:

The book weโ€™re about to start, Home Thread for ์†Œ๋ฆฌ๋ฅผ ๋ณด๋Š” ์†Œ๋…„ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘‚ Korean Fiction Book Club ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท Starting Nov 13, is probably around the early 20s Iโ€™d say (it has a temporary rating because it hasnโ€™t been graded yet). Iโ€™m reading a bit ahead so I can fill out the reference sheet with vocabulary and grammar (link in thread), and there are others willing to help if you have questions.

I wouldnโ€™t mind reading along with something easier at the same time if you already have a book in mind, though. :+1:

Oh right, I hadnโ€™t thought about that. I might try to join you then, but Iโ€™ll see if I have enough time. From what I can tell though it does seem like thereโ€™s a lot of vocab I donโ€™t know in that book, and not just the vocab in @bibliothecary 's Google doc.
Iโ€™m already reading ์ถ˜ํ–ฅ์ „ right now as well, which is also above my level, so reading two books that are too advanced for me at the same time might not be a good idea.

I like the ๋‹ค๋ฝ์› series, so Iโ€™d be interested in reading their B1 book, ํฅ๋ถ€์ „. But Iโ€™m really open to anything, so feel free to share any of your ideas as well.

Oh, I have that book and I havenโ€™t read it yet, so Iโ€™d be up for joining!

Iโ€™d be happy to read along with that too. If you wanted, you could set up an โ€œinformalโ€ book club for that one if you donโ€™t want to set up the intermediate/beginner book club right away. There are some informal clubs on the Japanese forum and usually everyone just reads at their own pace without scheduling and posts their thoughts with spoiler tags. :slightly_smiling_face: That way you can get some reading buddies for that!

I just made a thread for ํฅ๋ถ€์ „ here.

Hello all! I am reviving this topic!

Iโ€™m very happy to have found a forum with active Korean book clubs, but unfortunately my current level wonโ€™t allow me to join any of the ones Iโ€™ve seen here.
Would anybody be interested in an Absolute Beginner Book Club? I was thinking levels 15 and under, but we could adjust that depending on peopleโ€™s interest.

  • Yes
  • No
  • Maybe?

It could be an informal book club, since I am probably going to be reading a book under lvl 15 regardless, and would be happy to share the reading with anyone willing to join (even with a different book).

hello! iโ€™d be happy to join in. this sounds like a lovely idea

Thatโ€™s great!!
Letโ€™s give it a week and see how things are looking on Monday. If we have more people interested we can start nominations on a separate thread, and start reading maybe from Oct 20th? 1 week to make nominations, 1 week to vote, and 1 week to get the book?
If itโ€™s only the two of us we can make it an informal book club. Iโ€™m very excited either way

Iโ€™ve never held a book club and even going through other threads Iโ€™m not really sure how to go about it, so if the timeline doesnโ€™t seem realistic Iโ€™m happy to adjust

Youโ€™ve got all the basic points down, no worries! Thatโ€™s pretty much all what the rest of us are doing: some time to nominate, some time to vote, and then a bit of time to acquire the book. Set up a schedule appropriate for the club participants, and youโ€™re good to go. :+1:

iโ€™ve only recently joined by first book club, so weโ€™re both new to it! thereโ€™s no set rules for how set everything up as far as i know, so we can make stuff up and change stuff along the way as needed. iโ€™m looking forward to it as well

Itโ€™s finally Monday!! Iโ€™m really overly excited over this.
Anyway, it looks like there are a few of us interested, so I went ahead and created the homethread:

Go ahead and nominate your TBR < lvl 15

Hello everyone!! Recently there have been more Korean learners around, so I was wondering if anyone had any books they were interested in reading with a partner/group? It would be fun to start up some informal book clubs (no schedule, read at your own pace and post as you go with spoiler tags) for Korean.

If anyone has some books they are looking for reading buddies to team up with, feel free to share them here.

Iโ€™m planning to read ๊ทธ๋ž˜์„œ ์šฐ๋ฆฌ๋Š” ์‚ฌ๋ž‘์„ ํ•˜์ง€ | L26 in June (queer books for the queerest month :sunny:), is anyone interested in a quick informal book club?

Forgot to add a poll

  • Iโ€™m in!
  • The bookclubs are overcoming me, I wonโ€™t join this one
  • The bookclubs are overcoming me, Iโ€™ll embrace it and join this one as well
  • I might but also I might not.
  • Other?

Due to limited interest, and also due to the fact that I bought more unrelated books, and have been in a reading slump anyway, Iโ€™ll postpone that bookclub idea.

Here are some books I have downloaded that are not currently on the docket for reading:

I would be willing to read any of these

Iโ€™m planning on reading ์‹œ๊ฐ„ ๊ณ ์–‘์ด | L20?? some time in the near future, and since I see several people have marked it as โ€œwant to readโ€ I thought Iโ€™d gauge interest for an informal book club (or a buddy read).
I donโ€™t care much about the start date, could be right now, next month, or a little while down the road depending on interest.

Here are the summaries:

A future Earth where animals have been wiped out by a pandemic virus, the cry of Eunsil, the last cat alive, is heard. Seorim and Joseโ€™s green action begins! A new ecological science fiction fantasy story, Time Cat: The World Where Animals Disappeared, is published. A new ecological sci-fi fantasy story about a world where animals have disappeared. With environmental pollution and climate change, no one can say for sure when and what variables will emerge to change the survival of humanity and the ecology of the planet. One of the reasons why COVID-19 has caused unprecedented fear among humans is that the virus is โ€˜zoonoticโ€™. In Korea, a total of 89 pets have been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), raising the need to develop an animal vaccine. The COVID-19 virus can infect both animals and humans, but there have been no cases of animal-to-human transmission to date. What would happen if all mammals except humans disappeared from the planet? "Time Cat: A World Without Animals is a fantasy story set in a world devastated by a zoonotic virus. The adventure of Seorim, a slum girl, as she discovers Eunsil, the last cat in the world, will touch childrenโ€™s hearts and teach them the values of life and coexistence, while providing them with a thrilling storyline with the suspense of a movie.

(For bingo purposes it would fit: no gradings/reviews, Join a book club, Planned to read in 2025 if itโ€™s already in your wishlist, scifi, Why is this in my TBR I guess, Has cats, set in a period thatโ€™s not modern, very likely a book from someone elseโ€™s bingo card and uhโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know what else you could possible want from a book )

I actually have a physical copy of this one but I havenโ€™t gotten around to reading it. So Iโ€™m definitely interested! Whether itโ€™s a full on book club or just a buddy read

Buddy read! Thatโ€™s fun!!
In case no one else votes yes, do you have a preference for when to start?

Not this week or the week after, but any time after that would be fine for me
