Product Updates & Casual Natively Discussion

The warning when you go to remove something from your library still says that it’ll be removed from any custom lists, but that should be custom tags now. Your lists are safe.

So maybe this happened with the latest Discourse update, maybe it happened before and I just didn’t notice - I used to be able to go to someone’s Natively profile by clicking on their forum icon; there would be a link there. I don’t see the link anymore, though, and I’m not sure how to search for someone easily on Nativley’s main site without it. :frowning:

This is fixed.

Yep, good catch. I had to disable it during the discourse issues. Will reimplement tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can always just use https://learnnatively.com/user/ + (username) to find their profile. I know not perfect

A couple of oddities regarding auto-generated where to find links:

When we come across things like this, should we just manually add the links? Or can the auto-generator be improved with some tweaks?

ETA: Doesn’t this symbol mean it opens in a new tab? Because it doesn’t do that in the add to lists pop-up… :sweat_drops:

Is it intended that the error page:

Not sure if someone has already brought this up before, but I’ve noticed that when you select the text in reviews, even if you haven’t clicked to uncover the spoilers, they become visible. This happens in both light and dark mode.

Considering it’s around the post that said he made the link point to the forum, I think the message number was accidentally put in there when he copied the url :joy:

Will fix.

Hopefully it’s rare enough where it just makes sense to manually add. If it’s not rare, than we should address it.

Whoops! Fixed. Now it goes to the topic header.

Not sure if there’s a better behavior. I’m guessing the copy functionality of the browser simply copies everything not within HTML tags. If that’s the case, I would have to not render the text in the still blurred spoiler situation… but that’s problematic because I have to render the text (obfuscated) in order to know the length.

I think we’ll have to keep that functionality for now…

Okay, I’ll just manually add and keep an eye out for any other anomalies.

Just out of interest, why would you select the text in reviews?

It seems to be dependent on browser. I just tried in light mode on my phone (Safari) and it kept spoilers hidden, and on my laptop (Brave, Edge, and Chrome) and it revealed them on all three.

@brandon , is it possible to add a book with the cover from a translation? I wanted to add 2666, but the original Spanish version has a bunch of naked people on the cover for whatever reason. The translations on the other hand have more normal covers.

666 is the number of the biest

Haha yes just add the book and send in the link to the photo as a feedback report on the book page.

I must say, the Spanish books coming in do require us to be a bit more lax on the ‘no nudity on the cover’ rule. As long as it’s not pornographic, it’s probably ok…

General question to all the anime fans out there…

For something like ワンピース | L25, the episode numbers do not reset with each season.

Normally, I always like to restart the episode numbers with each season as I generally think that’s more intuitive. It’s also easier for the system. So, the first episode of ワンピース Alabasta Arc | L25 is numbered episode 1, not 92 as TMDB has it.

Is that reasonable? I personally find it weird to have your ‘finished episodes’ on a season be ‘92’ or something rather than ‘1’, but if these anime series really emphasize the episode number, I could see it being harder to have to figure out which episode of the season you’re on. Although, perhaps providers also would list the episode number restarting on each season, regardless of how the One Piece creators specify it.

Would love your thoughts!

So I would say yes to each season starting at episode 1, but I can’t find an example in my list that doesn’t already do this. Maybe this only happens for super long shows? If so it doesn’t really apply to me.

On Hulu, I think Sailor Moon is divided up into seasons, but the episode number goes from 1-200 (or whatever the last episode is). For me, personally, this is the best compromise I’ve seen to accommodate seasons, but also preserve the episode number. Not sure if this is feasible, but for me personally I’d much prefer to maintain the episode number instead of restarting it each season.

Shows like One Piece that don’t reset the episode numbers each season tend to be that way because they’re running effectively continously, so the seasons are more like arcs than real production seasons. This is mostly a thing for kids shows and long running shonens. Unfortunately, I think people are more likely to know One Piece episode 579 than S16E01 as a result.

And then you get pathological cases like Pokemon which has 26 seasons, but episodes are numbered per series, of which there are 8/9 depending on if you use the English or Japanese sequencing.

so e.g. JN049 - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia is the 49th episode of the 8th series, and is known as journeys episode 49, not as season 23 episode 1 or as episode 1134.

I would find that incredibly frustrating, and think that just like how some shows have 1 season with tons of episodes (Pokemon - Indigo League, Full Metal Alchemist, Ranma 1/2, etc), the original structure should be reflected.

I’m not a One Piece fan, but I’m assuming they would reference the episodes using overall numbers as well. That’s how their Fandom Wiki references it (it says season 2 but doesn’t include the relative count)

Side note, are you sure TMDB has 92 for that? One Piece wiki, EN Wikipedia, and Crunchyroll all have 62.
