Product Updates & Casual Natively Discussion

Just noticing now that with the change in the labels for list privacy settings, the “Profile only” label in the add-to-list pop-up is too long and kind of breaks the formatting.

Maybe it would be good shorten it to just “Profile” in the pop-up, so it takes up a similar amount of space as “Private” and “Public”?

Ooh thanks for the notes and suggestions, will look into. @eefara that’s strange! Definitely warrants investigation

I just checked and it’s showing up now. I didn’t charge anything on my end.

Edit: never kind, it’s gone again

Unless my eyes are really missing it, the graph that shows your reading speed throughout a book seems to have disappeared. Was it removed, or is that a bug?

@Mizuki @eefara @暁のルナ @gillianfaith

All of these errors were coming from the same issue which @Silverado found!

These should now all be fixed, thanks @Silverado :star_struck:

Working for me now. Thx!!

So, last time I picked a bad example, but see here. If I’m searching for Pratchett by series, shouldn’t the full Discworld series appear? I’m confused.

There is yet another option, “all volumes separately” which is what you’re looking for, I guess?
Although I must confess I’m not really sure why the “series” option doesn’t give you the “series” object (in your case Discworld | L32??) but instead the first volume

I haven’t checked but looking at Discworld it looks like the series’ author is marked as ‘various authors’ and I’m guessing that means we can’t match the series.

This would actually be solved by an issue @eefara has been trying to get me to solve.. there are tons of authors in English with last name being put as their first name, first name as last. This impacted Discworld as half of the books have terry pratchett one way, half the other.. leading to the ‘various authors’.

Of course, you’d think we’d handle it better as ‘Pratchett’ should match both ways.. but i think the fact that there’s not one author shared on every book makes the system confused.

So, data quality issue + search not being super robust = discworld missing

As always, lots to do!

Weird behaviour on that series page: if I click on one of the “Pratchett” links, it seems to be random whether I end up at https://learnnatively.com/search/eng/books/?q=Pratchett (which shows me 2 books, one of which seems totally unrelated) or at the same URL but with “jpn” instead of “eng”, which shows no results… Mostly it’s the eng page, but occasionally not.

Yes… sigh … this might be the everlasting language confusion bug again. We’re working on it!

this is a data problem. the original title from amazon included terry pratchett and thus it shows up in the search… librarians can’t edit those ‘original titles’, so even if we take it out from the title shown, in the background it’s still there.

I’ll ask brandon if we could get editing access to the relevant field as well. :see_no_evil_monkey:

That sounds more like a code problem to me. Search should search the current titles, not the original titles as pulled from Amazon.

ETA: I filed an issue about this so it doesn’t get forgotten: Search should search on current book titles, not the original titles imported from amazon

@nikoru Now that the new dashboard is out, including the new dark mode, I’d like to start reporting other issues with dark mode. How do you feel about a megathread where people can report any and every issue with dark mode on the website? If you’re okay with that I’ll start one later this week.

If it were mainly geared towards the dashboard release, the dashboard release thread would be a good place, I feel. But if it’s across the whole site, as you say, then a dedicated megathread would make a lot of sense in my opinion. So please fire away

Sounds good. I’ll even link to the new dashboard thread and ask people to post there if their issue is specifically with the dashboard.

Random minor thing:

This book has a sensible JA blurb, but the EN blurb is a completely different blurb.

It says “Machine Translated· needs review” - so I guess isn’t from a human accidently editing in the wrong book (but idk)

So just wondering how the blurb ended up fairly comically different? (If the EN blurb wasn’t so obviously mismatched I probably would have been misled)

Seems like DeepL translated an entirely different synopsis

The bots are revolting! One bad blurb at a time !

Thanks for the report haha. I’m not sure how that happened.. worth investigation!

Investigating slowness on site! Will report back.

Edit: Resolved!
