Product Updates & Casual Natively Discussion

When edition handling is combined with rereads, will it be possible to have multiple editions on any of your lists? For example, one edition read and another owned, or two editions read?

I’m mainly asking because editions and rereads (and this combination) are the only reason I’m still using Bookmeter and I’d like to stop tracking on two sites.

Ok - you can now immediately upload a book!

You’ll notice that we don’t automatically determine if there’s a series or not… but the automatic process will populate the amazon series within the hour. You will be able to mark progress and grade immediately however.

One caveat - asking for new volumes to be added to an existing series is still a work in progress. Planning on doing a ‘sync’ button similar to tv series functionality, but still manual like before.

Perhaps, but I don’t know. I don’t imagine it’s a terribly common use case… but something to think about

Edit: Added to the caveat

Great addition!

Edit: NVM Just read it, my coffee didn’t kick in

Question:
How are you dealing with mature content from now on? There is no one checking whether something has nudity on the cover or if a “mature content” tag is needed.

So yeah this is what I’ll be doing this weekend. To be clear, there will be someone still looking at the uploaded books and approving them to be searcheable. At the very least we should have a checkbox you can check for adult content when uploading a book. A mature book would be auto-excluded from the global feed… and once I get some more of the ‘mature’ functionality, it’ll be more configurable.

For the time being, let’s not add your ‘naughty’ list until those things are more set up. :joy:

Do you imagine this use case makes it hard to handle?

By the way, I understand this isn’t the biggest use case. I just think if the book shelves are tied to editions and not to books as a whole (which to me sounds like a given since you’ll want to display the right covers and volume numbers) it seems like it would just work anyway. But maybe I’m missing someting.

I just know that at some point I do plan to read ご注文はうさぎですか Complete Blend even though I’ve already read the regular version. It might be a while since I’ll probably wait for all of them to be released, but in the meantime I still own them and would like to mark them as such.

i guess the database is going to grow like wildfire :joy:

So, it depends on how I end up doing the data model. To be frank, I was thinking that I’d just keep everything tied to book with an optional edition choice on your user item. You’re right, when it comes to display that’d require a bit of runtime logic, but that approach would make the overhaul to editions easier I think.

I haven’t completely thought it through however… but I’ll take that consideration in mind and maybe in a month or two we can chat again.

Ok, you will now notice that for all book series that are sourced from amazon (i.e. japanese books), you will no longer submit a request for additional volumes. Rather, you can simply hit ‘sync’ on the series page and it will update the series within the hour:

If for some reason, the additional volumes are not on the amazon series page, simply send a feedback report (“Something not right?” button).

I will try to add a little ‘adult content’ handling today… but after that I’ll be moving on to German! This new amazon functionality should make opening up new languages frighteningly easy… we’ll see.

Looks like we’ll soon be welcoming amazon.de into the fold then! :sparkles::de::sparkles:

Also, FYI there have been somewhat periodic 2-4 minute slowdowns on the site this past week… unfortunately, it seems like we’ve been getting some massive spikes in traffic which seem to be automated. It hasn’t become a super big issue yet, but I’ll try to address relatively soon.

If you encounter that issue, just try again in 5 minutes and the site should be ok

I’ve added the bunko version of Tokimeki Tonight. I hope that’s okay. I noticed that JoJo has both the regular and bunko versions on here.

I was reading Tokimeki Tonight in mid 2022 but tracking it on Natively with the non bunko versions but I got really confused and
as to which one I was up to as per the regular versions so stopped tracking them all together

I don’t remember what vol I’m up to of the bunko either now but I plan to figure it out and hopefully finish the series next year.

Alright, so I’ve added german just for kicks but will keep it a mostly unannounced opening for now. If any of you are into german, check it out and upload some items! I mostly wanted to get this started as a Christmas gift for my brother

Will be doing some more outreach (and adding the appropriate forum functionality & messages) in the next few days. FWIW, it does seem like adding languages now that are handled by an amazon domain should be extremely easy. It all depends on how well this amazon automated upload process goes… and later how well we handle book editions.

That’s ok!
