Ugggh, why does this have to happen during one of my “no manga purchases for the next month” periods?
(I’m mostly buying physical now anyway, but still)

I don’t normally post about limited-time free to read promotions, but since I’m a fan of the series: the first 66 chapters of D.Gray-man | L25 (out of around 245 or so) are free to read on the publisher’s site. I don’t see an end date for the promotion; the tweet just says 本日より, so whenever they feel like stopping the promotion, I suppose. For those who do want to check it out here, chapter 66 gets you to the end of volume 7; see this list for a chapter-volume breakdown prior to that.
eerr stupid question incoming… I’m kinda scared to use bookwalker as can I get dictionary support on amazon content from yomitan in my browser - can one get support reading bookwalker content?
I’m generally into light novels rather than manga - primarily because it’s easier to get support via ttsu-reader/yomitan
(apologies for the thread hijack, just keep seeing all these great bookwalker links)
Short answer: for manga no, for novels yes but it depends on your setup.
Longer answer: I think that if you read Bookwalker books directly from the website, you don’t have any dictionary support. You could theoretically copy words and paste them into a dictionary, but it’s a lot of hassle.
If you use the Android Bookwalker app, tapping on a word brings up Google Translate. I personally hate it from the bottom of my heart and don’t think it can ever replace a proper dictionary, but it is what it is. You can also copy words to paste into an external dictionary, but it’s not entirely straightforward.
If you use the iOS Bookwalker app, tapping on a word brings up the system dictionaries (there’s a JP-EN and a JP-JP one, both of which are good, but sometimes miss words due to inflection or katakana). I read on my iPad. I use the built-in dictionary from within the app and I’m generally happy with it. For the times it fails me, I have another external dictionary (Midori and Dictionaries app) on slide over for ready access, and type or paste the word I want to look up there.
The deal for getting extra points back is a scam. The points expire much sooner than normal (don’t remember the exact date), which I knew, but apparently they are still pending and won’t be confirmed for “approximately 35 days”.
the GW bookwalker one?
PSA, it’s free shipping weekend again at Surugaya.
I noticed that too, but I think more than a scam is something that they screwed setting up.
At least it didn’t use to be like this.
Should still have a month-ish to redeem, because they expire the month after they become active.
But yeah, it sucks.
Q1.When are Time-Limited Points granted?
Points earned during Deal Festivals are granted approximately 40 days after the event ends. Other grants differ by campaign, and can be confirmed on the respective details pages.
Q2. When do Time-Limited Points expire?
Time-Limited Points expire at the end of the following month, after they have been granted. In some cases, a campaign may grant Time-Limited Points with different expiry dates. See campaign details when entering to learn more.
mine are valid until September… which seems fine to me. Don’t know how long points normally are valid.
I have just been granted the points for the GW campaign
A bit over a month to spend. While not ideal, it’s still better than the 35 days that said it would take to issue (if you don’t take into account than in the FAQ says it should still be valid the month after they are issued), as that would have theoretically left us with only a few days to spend.
Regular points are valid for a year. If you make a purchase that gives you more regular points, they renew all the points for a year from the date of purchase, so as long as you keep making purchases that grant points, theoretically, you can keep them forever.
Regular points expire one year after your last purchase or points earn. When you make another purchase on Amazon the expiration date is extended to one year from the most recent purchase.
I got mine too. Maybe the delay was just a bug/mistake.
I already spent the points, so I don’t have to worry about them expiring.
There’s a second round of GW sale if you feel adventurous
I saw and activated it, but won’t go out of my way this time. I noticed another case (like Made in Abyss) of several volumes for less than 10 yen, so if I do that I’ll “make” money. But in this case the manga is super sus and not something I want in my library.
A lot of JP games on Steam on sale rn, cuz of Golden Week - have even seen some stuff 60-80% off, or free (one of the Atelier games)!!
I think similar for Switch, tho it’s more annoying to buy JP stuff from the Nintendo site
Isn’t that just the free gacha game that has terrible reviews?
All but the newest volume of 佐々木と宮野 is half off at Amazon:
(The light novel series are also half off too: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B09RN5QP4G)
What’s the difference between the manga and LN? Which one’s the original?
Not 100% sure (I’ve only seen the anime ) but I think the manga is the original and the LN is a story told from the other point of view of the manga.
If you make a new bookwalker account, you currently get 100% coins back for your first purchase, if it’s above 1500 Yen. (That’s because the Golden Week 50% coin back stacks on top of the 50% first purchase coin back.)
40% points back for all four volumes. (5th volume coming out in June.) Full color and easily joined my favorite manga list when I read it last week.
First two volumes are about half off plus another 40% points back.
All three volumes about half off + 40% back.
First three volumes are about half off + 40% back. Some points back on later volumes.
Half off + 40% back.
Entire series is about half off + 40% back.
