Disney+ has a YouTube channel with Japanese dubbed documentaries (no commercials, no geo-block):
Here is e.g. 火星:遙かなる赤い惑星へ, runtime about 90 minutes. Edit: but the movies are only temporarily available. So if something strikes your fancy, you might want to watch it soon(ish).
The narrator here speaks quite slowly, compared to your usual TV series.
I’m looking for a good looking anime from the late 70s/early 80s. I don’t really care that much about what it’s about. I enjoy the aesthetics of that era of anime and am in the mood for one, but don’t have any good ideas of what I’d want to watch. Recommendations very appreciated.
Put it on my wishlist. Life has a bunch of stresses right now so I’m not sure that I want to have to engage with something difficult (either thematically or linguistically ) rn, but it does look beautiful, aesthetically.
Yeah, ベルサイユのばら is a someday™ watch for me, and I think, in the end, I just don’t like Anne of Green Gables… I’ve now tried to read the book twice, watch the movies, and most recently watched Anne Shirley and I just never get into the story much farther than when she meets Diana.
ベルサイユのばら I’d really love to read the manga first, but I don’t quite think I want to brave a manga that hard yet. Maybe next year
Oh good to know. あらいぐまラスカル is my current front runner bc I love racoons (although apparently this show led to a bunch of people getting a pet raccoon and then ditching them in the woods when they got out of control, and now they’re a menace in the Japanese countryside, and especially to old shrines ).
I still will take a look and see if I can find it streaming somewhere…
