I don’t think this is a great suggestion for you, but if someone else is looking for a low level dialogue/thought heavy LN I came across this recently: 何故か学校一の美少女が休み時間の度に、ぼっちの俺に話しかけてくるんだが? | L23.
I wrote out a review with my thoughts from the first chapter or so.
I’d like some suggestions for a completed 1-3 volume manga series that is still in print so I can buy a new physical copy. I generally read slice of life and romance, in both comedy and drama forms. Fantasy and sci-fi are also good, but I don’t like too much action in manga. Only hard no in terms of genre/theme is gore, excessive ecchi, or BL. I’m open to pretty much anything else.
L21 is 3 volumes and kinda fantasy/sci-fi. It has some fat phobia themes (but most Japanese does as well, so…). But was decently enjoyable.
I can recommend 路地迷宮のロージー | L24?? on the fantasy front. It’s been a little while since I last read it, but I remember it being low action. A little girl wanders into a mysterious labyrinth that no one’s ever escaped from and is taken care of by three of the residents. There’s a lot of fantastical stuff going on in the labyrinth, and no romance iirc.
If you are open to a 4 volume Manga: ねこだまり 1巻 | L22?? OL living with 3 cats, slice of life.
Fantasy slice of life (3 volumes): 終わりのち、アサナギ暮らし。 | L22
Japanese countryside cat slice of life (1 volume): カボチャの冒険 | L22??
Chill fantasy? Someone described it as Ghibli-esque. (Disclaimer: I haven’t read that one, but it was on my list when I was searching for basically the same thing as you. And don’t confuse them with the light novels, they almost look the same.)
Hmmm, sounds like a good idea, but I tried this with a history book aimed at elementary school children (where they enacted parts of the history, to make it more vivid, I guess) and with アンダーグラウンド | L34 which mainly consists of interviews, and although not everything is written directly as it was said, it’s still basically dialogue
But yeah, maybe the third is the charm ^^
I‘ve only read the first one so far, it is more like ancient history (until 1200 or so?) so I didn’t have so much interest in the subject but I remember bits and pieces anyway.
If you’re interested we could read the second volume together
Ok let’s see… not before Friday because I‘m currently traveling and don’t have the book with me Other than that, I think I can squeeze it in whenever. What would be suitable for you, and roughly how many pages are you aiming for per week?
Honestly I could probly read through that book in a day or two, assuming the level and page count are accurate (though it does seem like something that’s better to read not in one sitting, and/or take notes on). So whatever’s good for you
Edit: if we wanna make an informal thread out of it, and do it sans-schedule, I’m down for that. Or say 2-3 sections a week? Idk what that actually translates to in pg count tho
I think that’s the most reasonable plan, given my available time is a bit all over the place right now Would you like to set up a thread for it? Then we can discuss any details over there, and we don’t bother the others in here with our chit-chat
I also remembered Yazawa Ai has a short series, 下弦の月 | L24?? that has some supernatural elements to it. It’s pretty similar to her other works, so if you don’t like her, I wouldn’t recommend it.
