Discussion Rules

(based on @omk3 s rules for the ハサミ男 Informal Reading Club)

  • Please mention which chapter your comment is meant for and use spoiler tags liberally, both for referring to the novels contents and for speculation of your own.
  • When asking for help, please mention the chapter and reference the full sentence (adding a link is always a plus).
  • Don’t be afraid of asking questions, even if they seem embarrassing at first. All of us are here to learn and have fun  :heart_hands:

as a side note: there is a natively page for the official publication version.

Please take into account

that there are a lot of cases where the comperhensive level between the web version and novel version is VERY different so don’t assume that the level is accurate in any way, take it as a “possibility that considering the subject and author it might be something close to this level”

And that’s all folks! :rabbit: :carrot: If you’re interested in trying out more webnovels or just want to hang out with some of us make sure to visit over at the Web Novels Informal Book Club :computer: :bookmark_tabs:

I had to look up the song cause I felt like I was missing something with the weird “月が~” and random “ヨイヨイ” in there and for some reason this is a lot more happier sounding than anything I was expecting :joy:
I was honestly thinking it’ll be something chill

Ch 1: The beginning definitely hooks you in! Very curious about Nana’s relationship with her husband that led to the opening events and I wonder how she’ll deal with the aftermath. Rather convenient for Nana to happen to have a large freezer lying around that belonged to her grandfather but I suppose we can’t have her caught that easily :joy: I was trying to envision what kind of area Nana lived in, for her place to have thick hedges and big storage shed but still close enough to her neighbors and to the festivities, but maybe we’ll learn more in later chapters.

I randomly started reading the published version yesterday night. I didn’t go very far, though.
That being said, the story sure goes from 0 to 100 in a very short amount of time

Ch 2: Wow I did not expect that at all! Twin? Clone? Robot? Something supernatural? I have so many questions… he doesn’t seem like a bad guy though, at least at this point in the story :face_with_peeking_eye:

Ch 3: Well… definitely not a great guy now. It’s so sad that there are actual relationships like this where you can’t even escape because the partner acts completely different in front of others.

Halfway through Ch 3, I was like, wait, is her name really Nana? Isn’t it pronounced Kana? But nope, I forgot the summary had it as Nana lol. Recently read a VN where 環 was pronounced Wataru instead of Tamaki and that confused me too…

Chapter 1:
since there were some sentences I had a lot of trouble with, and since I managed to fix my problem with anki connect, I decided to reread this chapter

I got it much better this time but there were some sentences that confused me that I’m not sure if it’s because my learning of grammar was a mess or if it’s a rarely seen thing or maybe a part that isn’t completely “clear” in the first place?

Fwiw, from what I recall the hardest bits were all in the introduction. You’ll probably fare easier from here on out.

will see I guess lol
so far into chapter 2 it’s more of a “new vocab” problem than a grammar one like the last chapter so maybe?

chapter 2:

I knew from the synopsis but I still love how it’s done lmao
so either it’s a supernatural story and it’s a doppelganger, it’s a “she’s crazy” and he isn’t real, or a telenovela and it’s the secret evil twin

it could also be the “dramatic mind fuck that isn’t that dramatic” ending and she died instead of 亮

btw his name is Makoto right? not Akira?

@cat you were right, it WAS a lot easier to understand

edit: sorry for multiple spoilers, can’t put it under one spoiler tag for some reason, either that or I did a dumb dumb again

It’s actually りょう (I double checked the furigana on my paper copy)

Just popping up here to say I read the paper bunko version.
(I don’t know how much is different).

But if anyone needed encouragement to read this one, I’m also keen to see people’s reactions! :ice_cube::ice_cube::ice_cube:

The bit about the serial killer coworker is shorter and doesn’t involve her running off with him in the web version from what I remember comparing notes with @Biblio

Yes, I remember being so confused what you were going on about.

I actually really enjoyed this bit.

But can also see how it’s fairly unconnected to the main plot.

Popping in here months later because (39% spoiler):

I died at her nonchalantly referring to her dish as 焼き亮チャーハン.

I have to say, this book started out with a bang and has kept up the suspense. I started it briefly in September right before I stopped reading for a while due to RL, and I just kept thinking about it. I had unfortunately stopped around 7% when she checks the freezer to confirm he’s still there and then tests to see if he’s a ghost.

Now I’m back, and it’s hard to put down. The only thing that is a little rough is reading about (probably ~25% spoiler) the domestic violence. If this was 200 pages of that, I don’t think I could do it. I realize that’s a little rich since I’m voluntarily reading a book about a wife murdering and then planning to re-murder her husband. Wife murdering her abusive husband: :o:. Husband beating the crap out of his wife: :x:.

Percentages are based on the Kindle version.

Thankfully the domestic violence is fairly minimal in descriptions from what I recall, but the TV adaptation (which was different in a lot of ways) really dwelled on it.

Glad you’re enjoying it and looking forward to reading more of your thoughts!

Immediately after this, 亮 started making her meals and I thought, “Oh, now she’s eating 焼き亮チャーハン”, especially with all the comments about the bad seasoning and heavy flavors…
