Discussion ground rules
Any spoilers, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
Always mention where you are in the book when discussing, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting! But please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That can be part of the discussion too and I’m sure some folks would be happy to help.
Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
Timetable
Since it’s a similar level as the last cycle, and at least it looked like things were going okay pace-wise last time, I’m making it it the same pace (if there’s any problems with this please let me know here or by message)
Oh, no. It’s not all a single story? That sucks. At this point anthologies and very short stories just feel like taunting to me.
Week 1 page 5 to 42
what does キスなんかで解けるかっての mean? I don’t understand the かっての part. I assume it translates to something like “as if something like a kiss would dispell it”
Also, not that it matters at all, but what gender is the apothecary? Looked like a guy to me. But when I saw the dark finger nails I wasn’t so sure. And they have ear rings. But on the other hand they have a thick neck and no visible breasts.
after reading the blurb, I was a bit worried about the enemies-to-lovers cliché, but so far it was really cute!
I had some trouble with that phrase as well, my first thought was the same as you translated it.
I think after breaking it down as
キスなんかで 解けるか + って + の
it sounds more like “Do you think/did you think something like a kiss would dispell it?”, I guess not too different in meaning.
I was about to very confidently reply that he looked like a guy, but had a second look and only now noticed that they also have detailed eyelashes, and other than their clothes, the style they’re drawn in seems like what you’d expect if she was a short-haired woman ¯\_(シ)_/¯
I read this in English. You are correct: the first and third chapter are the same characters but the second chapter is completely different (and mehh in a weird way🤨). MangaUpdates has a section for related series on every title and lists the title for the manga/first chapter and the chapter as prequel and sequel of each other. The page for the second chapter leaving this part blank. No correlation except maybe the fantasy parts I would suppose.
Assumed it was a backstory of some kind with one of the characters introduced in the first chapter but the characters list clarifies.
All of this to realize someone already said this in short
Just finished the first chapter. It was fine, but not particularly moving. Rather than having her bantering with the apothecary, I would have preferred her interacting more with the other lead
第2話 - Well that was cute, and slightly more intense than I expected. It made me think of ガヴリールドロップアウト 1 | L21 (not yuri afaik, cgdct 残酷な天使と良心的な悪魔キャラたち comedy)
I quite liked this week and first week. I didn’t care that much about the intermission bit. I wish it were more substantial.
I thought 腹を括りwas interesting. My interpretation is that it more literally refers to the tensening of the stomach muscles for preparation of impact. I didn’t know of a similar English saying that refers to this.
Week 3 was cute and fine. The illusion fire thing was kinda funny, and it was cool that the witch used the truth serum on herself. I wanna know what happens to the town after tho. Like does Meg keep raiding/messing with it? If so, how does Lilith maintain her job? What do the town folks do about it? If not, do they mend their relationship with Meg? Does Meg just avoid the town (besides the apothecary) entirely?
Since ppl asked about the apothecary’s gender earlier, they were in fact male, 魔男 specifically
Anyway, wasn’t a particularly interesting read, but wasn’t a bad one either
I liked this one as well.
maybe it wasn’t too unexpected, but still thought it was funny how ハチ turned out to be a neutral party, selling potions to both witch and hunter.
and same as 暁のルナ, I’d wish to see how their relationship as supposed enemies would develop later, since it’s still リリス’s job.
