We meet a lot of people in these chapters and all of them follow the pattern of seeing something Mia does (and gladly not her reasons/thoughts behind it) and think she’s the kindest person ever.
Poor Tiona had no chance.
Mia said “I’d save any citizen, even a beggar (or slave, which one was that I don’t remember)” and Tiana went “she considers me a citizen, this is more than anyone’s done for me before”. That’s depressing.
Shion is weird but also, did you just break Shion/Tiona romance flag and didn’t notice?

And we don’t know much about Rafina but she already knows of Mia from the rumors (good) and unlike the last life, now she sees some value in Mia (uhh, good that she prefers good deeds over presents?)

Anne’s 「それにしても、ミーアさま、どうして島に橋をかけるなりしないんでしょうか？ 船にしても、馬車ごと運ばなくっても良いような気がするんですが……」 was an excellent point, and I don’t feel it was properly answered despite all the words used afterwards
I don’t get how the ship is solving the problems that a bridge would have. Wouldn’t the “nobility that is not used to waiting” have to wait even longer in the harbor for the ship, and then argue who gets the next space on the ship?
And “nobles are angry when other people are assigned cabins more lavishly/bigger” could easily be solved by just making every single cabin the same.
Chapter 21
Haha. I like the Anne/Mia dynamic, and how it is forcing Mia to make decisions that are in line with Anne’s delusions about her.
Not quite, but! Even without any further personality development, she’d probably actually already be a pretty decent ruler: She wants her people to be happy, lends her power to people who are good at governing and does her best at being a wise and valiant person. Of course she’s doing all of that for the wrong reasons (avoiding the guillotine, having no idea of how to govern and not wanting to disappoint Anne), but still, the results would probably be at least decent?

Can’t really fault him here. When you look at it from the outside, “she’s angry because she cares for her people” is certainly a more likely explanation than “Ah, Mia is angry because her maid coerced her into saving her archenemy from a past timeline”
Very hard to follow again when the description of Nobles/Royalty and such.
Could get through thanks to the Audiobook.
Noticed a small mistake either on the audiobook or the junior book, where they say 二年間 but is written 三年間 (not a big deal as it doesn’t really alter anything)

I’m glad that there are some hints that are just not trying to avoid the guillotine/ill fate, but pure appreciation and pay for the kindness in the previous life, like when she washed Anne’s back in the bath.
I’m guessing a ship is a fancier method of transport, as you can do other stuff (if the ship has the facilities) while being transported. In a horse-drawn car, there’s not so much to do other than looking through the window, having small talk or reading something (if you can with the vibration).
For the wait times, I guess it depends on traffic on both the port or by ground, and how are the gate checks / harbor checks…
Plan's ahead
So I’m traveling to the other side of the world next week, and I’m a bit of a pinch on how to keep on with the three weeks I’ll be away. I’ll probably get the Junior digital version and load it on my laptop… I have 40hours of planes ahead, so time is not a problem…
The moments between Anne and Mia were really cute these chapters I hope we get to see more of them hanging out and going places together while they’re at school. Surprised we haven’t seen Mia’s parents yet.
Also I have something to rant about so I’m going to rant about it below lol.

Mia’s really grown on me. I’m actually kind of annoyed at how the narrative is turning into “all the other nobles are good people who actually hated Mia because she was such a bad person!!” I can understand why Shion and the first minor-noble-turned-revolutionary girl (I forgot her name) hated her but I refuse to believe ラフィーナ is sooo enlightened she was out here shunning Mia as a preteen for behaving no different than other noble daughters behaved.
Like yeah Mia was a stuck up noble who got what she deserved in the first life IMO but she was ultimately a product of the society that the other nobles including Raffina (or however her name’s spelt in English) actively support. I don’t think she’s any better than Mia was in her first life.
Pls let the narrative not fall into the typical fantasy trap of “status based on birth is bad because the current people in charge are bad. If they were good it would totally be ok for them to be worshipped and live in luxury while others struggle to pay rent!!”
Like Mia wasn’t a good person in her first life but she wasn’t the problem in particular. I don’t think Mia and Raffia’s different outcomes in the first life can be attributed to their personalities; Mia just got dealt an unluckier hand with the revolution while Raffia got lucky that no one tried to overthrow her family.

I looked it up out of curiosity since I have the ebook and I think the audiobook is probably right. I don’t know what specific sentence you’re talking about but there’s no mention of 三年間 in this week’s chapters but there are a few of 二年間.
My guess is Mia had a reputation before coming to the academy so they didn’t give her even a chance or try to correct/interact with her, which leaves them also part at fault.
That’s so strange I wonder why they changed it in the junior versions. Maybe there was some inconsistency with the timeline later on so the author changed it in any newer editions of the book.
Yeah she is iirc she’s 2 years older than Mia? Don’t remember her exact age. I thought it was 14 but it might’ve been 16 like Nihongolearner commented.
But I meant that there’s no way Raffina was such a mature person at such a young age. Realistically she’d have no reason to dislike Mia for being haughty and classist since that would be her norm.
Why not? We don’t know a lot about her yet - who knows what her stances are, how she generally behaves and what she heard about Mia in the previous timeline.
(And we haven’t actually met a lot of nobles or their kids either, so we have no idea what the norm actually is.)
I mean I think it’s fair to assume that in a hierarchal society the people at the top of it aren’t generally against the status quo. I know a lot of fantasy stories go with the whole “the nobles/royals are actually better people than our own leaders today!!” angle but I’m not a fan of the trope.
But yeah you’re right her behaviour is probably consistent with the world building— I just don’t like the world building itself honestly.
