week 6

Ah yes, the very Japanese trope of people not talking to each other so that even though all parties want the same thing, everyone is unhappy. I didn’t exactly hate this chapter, but we clearly needed to have some conflict in the story before the end so why not this.

I thought the scene when 七瀬 finally understood why 藤野 couldn’t concentrate at the movies before was a cute mirror of the first movie they went to. That was probably the highlight of the chapter for me.

But like 藤野, my dude, even if he didn’t remember all of that *gestures vaguely at last week*, he clearly is still treating you like more than a friend, and maybe you should, you know like… bring that up? Oh, no wait, that’s right, you would never do that in a million years. Sorry I suggested it.

I also struggle to believe that after all this time 七瀬 didn’t have 藤野’s 連絡先. Like they never needed to plan anything before the trip? Didn’t text each other to say when they’d be meeting at the movies? Like 藤野 is crushing hard on this dude and he doesn’t want to text him ever outside of school?

Week 6

What a dramatic ending. Far from 藤野 carefully maneuvering 七瀬 into realizing and confessing his own feelings, he just decides to go with the nuclear option and apply to a completely different university? And I took a look at the first sentence on the next part; good grief guys, this all feels a little melodramatic at this point.

I also have to wonder at the depths of 七瀬’s obliviousness past a certain point. You a) can’t stand to see him acting too friendly with girls, b) what to get really really really close to him, and c) miss the entirety of the movie you had to watch or else you couldn’t get any studying done because you were too busy staring at him the entire time. What could this possibly mean??

Yep, I got the exact same vibes. Everything’s fun and cute before the author realizes they haven’t checked everything off the trope list.

Listen shitsurei, we’ve already established that it’s bro code for 七瀬 to press his face against 藤野’s neck and inhale deeply. :triumph: Nothing to see here.

The only justification I can think of (which is also weaksauce) is that 七瀬 had it, but panicked and forgot, or figured 藤野 wouldn’t reply anyway, so he didn’t bother.

Yeah, I find the miscommunication a bit… too much here.

But I’ll share my thoughts next time, this was frustrating me so much I just ended up finishing the book in the weekend lol y’all might have read further at this point too anyway or will do so next week lol

Honestly, we’ve got so few pages left (~30?) that I’ve been seriously contemplating just wrapping it up this weekend as well. :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna read the whole thing this weekend :joy:

Should we just make next week go to the end?

Sounds good to me! I’ll post a final week and amend the home thread. Probably post it early this week bc we’re going away for labor day this weekend.

And that way @snowwater doesn’t have to wait as long :joy::joy:

Hahaha I don’t mean to rush anyone, so feel free to take your times if needed! (But not surprised if you all finish it soon too )

No worries! I was planning on finishing it up soon anyway. Got a couple of other books on the docket that would appreciate the breathing room.

Tbh I’m almost starting an advanced (mystery) book club next week, which is why I wanted to finish this one early and get a head start on the new book  glad we all have our piles.

I was almost tempted bc it had an audiobook, but I have a lot of club reads I’m already in, and I think it would need to be my main book to keep up with. Excited for you though! Hopefully you’ll be able to get through it with the club!

We’ll pull you into an advanced club one day… :eye: :lips: :eye:

Tbh, the hardest thing of an advanced club is not the difficulty, it’s the pace. How tf am I supposed to read 50+ pages of a book a week when I also have to keep up with bookclubs of 3 other manga, 2 other novels and books I read in my free time in my native language as well?! Are people just reading one book at a time?!

My current theory is that I’m the only person online who has to work and everyone else won the lottery at some point and lead lives of leisure.

In all seriousness, though, I put it down to a couple of possible things: reading in Japanese is basically their only hobby, their weekly schedule has more free time in it than mine, and/or they simply read faster than I do. I’ve definitely had to take a step back with my overall book club participation because of time concerns and wanting to fit in other hobbies.
