Ah, you know what, I think my confusion came from the fact that I thought he was saying, “this sweater keeps returning, but it couldn’t have been the woman who made it for me” instead of “this sweater keeps returning. Also the woman who made it for me was a big fan of mine and she started embezzling money”. Like, I didn’t realize he had two different topics in this section.
When I read it I wasn’t confused, but the specific sentence you quoted got me thinking, wait did I misunderstand this when I read it the first time. Thanks @Kroki bc it got me doubting myself too
Agreed! It was a lot of fun to see Shino act the part of a proper businessman and then drop all pretenses once he for a read on the guy.
I can’t decide if Shino’s just being ツンデレ about this and he wanted to do a little bit extra for 正路, or if he’s convinced himself that the whole 衣を纏う thing really counts as part of his side of the contract, haha. Regardless, it was a very sweet touch to bring the book full circle, with 正路 failing his exams in the very beginning.
Just the epilogue left! Should be finishing this up tomorrow.
And done! I felt a little bad skimming over all the 金継ぎ vocab and processes, but the end was so close.
I already own the rest of the currently-published books, so I’m hoping to get to them next year! They’re such short things I figure finishing the last four shouldn’t be too much of an ask.

What a chill ending after such exciting chapters. They’ve gotten used to each other so quickly. It does make me intrigued about what goes on in the next few volumes. Like @shitsurei mentioned, I’m wondering if it turns into an exorcism per chapter type deal or something else comes up.
Another thing about the sweater chapter. When Masamichi was pondering the ruthless terms of the host’s agreement with Shino and was reminded of his own, I thought he was gearing up to declare his own contract unfair. Instead, his takeaway is Ah shucks, what a great host that Shino guy is. Which I found to be pretty funny. I guess that’s what they call optimism.
