Reading 変な地図. If 雨穴 had a backlist of 20 something books, I’d probably be fluent by now
not even because they are that good, but because they are the exact right combination of simple language and interesting mystery that makes me want to keep going. This one is for me the hardest one for me so far, but the only reason I am not done yet is real life getting in the way.
Currently working my way through the first 本好き LN, and enjoying it a whole lot. I adore books with a slower pace and lots of descriptions of daily life without much drama so 本好き is absolutely perfect. I read the first 蜘蛛ですが、なにか LN before this book which was much more challenging first me despite both books being rated L33, so it’s really great to read something lighter and more comfortable to read.
I still need to read 変な地図, but have the exact same feeling about 雨穴 books. If at some point you’re looking for something similar, I just read 近畿地方のある場所について, it’s a (little) bit harder but in the same vein with quite a bit of 幽霊 lore.
My new read is the very popular 奇譚ルーム, a very easy read and pretty fun so far with its mix of chatroom conversations and more standard short stories. The language is almost too simplistic (many words usually written in kanji are written in kana which can throw me off) but the mystery is engaging enough to make me want to read to the end.
I’m reading 近畿地方のある場所について right now, and it’s slow going for me - mostly because I like to read in the evening, and if I read too much I get too scared! Honestly it might be the first real horror novel I’ve read in any language.
I am currently reading
and am about halfway through the book. While I can relate to 恵子 quite well considering I’m not neurotypical either, I still can’t say it’s my favourite book. I considered DNFing it but I’m halfway through already. I actually enjoy the scenes she isn’t in the store quite a bit more than the scenes that she is in the store.
On the plus side, I’ve been enjoying KoReader quite a bit, It has some quirks but it works well. And being able to make Anki cards directly from my ereader is gamechanging to me. So I’ve dropped Wanikani at level 37 and will try to build a habit of Anki instead.
I finished Silent Witch volume 9, so I’m going to take a break for a bit to read some manga and maybe a book in English. Overall I liked volume 9, though volume 8 was definitely better. I’ll probably hold off on reading volume 10 until another 1-2 volumes have released since I like reading a few in a row. I haven’t decided yet whether to go back to volume 4 after or whether to read volume 9 extra (both short story collections).
Any suggestions for what to read next? I have these:
- 〆切前には百合が捗る | L28 (both volumes)
- ひげを剃る。そして女子高生を拾う。 | L25 (first volume)
- 魔王は扇子で蕎麦を食う ~落語魔王与太噺~ | L27 (first volume)
- 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命 | L31 (first 7 volumes)
This is a favorite, and in n contrast to ひげひろ, I like how it handles the age gap, as well as deals with actual LGBT themes (rather than just being yuri)
I need to pick up with vol 5 at some point. I got upset with certain things in vol 4. First 3 volumes are solid though
Not gonna lie, I’ve been curious about this one for a while. One of the only things that has been stopping me from getting it is that I expect it to be extremely mid.
I would love to know what you think about it ![]()
Started reading 青春ブタ野郎はナイチンゲールの夢を見ない
I’m really determined to read more LNs and to focus on one series at a time , so I’m currently reading this series ![]()
Have you seen the anime? Idk that is read them, but I’m curious to hear how the novels and anime compare.
No. I barely ever watch anime anymore (last anime that I watched weekly and didn’t end up dropping was 奴隷区 in like 2018 I think), plus I generally don’t watch LN/VN adaptations.
But I was actually kinda curious about what seasons cover what volumes and well… I’m 100% sure the anime is a mess since the first season covers 5 volumes. Then there’s movies usually covering 2 volumes (which in one case is really bad because one of those volumes ends with a huge cliffhanger) and from what I’ve read volumes 11+12 were skipped completely.
This series seems awesome, I haven’t yet read it but it’s been on my wishlist for a while now.
I enjoyed the anime, so I definitely want to read it. It’s just somewhat similar in setting to Silent Witch, so I might read something else first.
Didn’t realize there was an anime. Guess I should add to my list to check out sometime
Finished vol 4. There were some excellent moments, but I liked vol 3 better, overall. Otoh I’m thrilled this isn’t an “ends after confession/graduation" or "ends at graduation” story. I appreciate that the author sped through the run of the mill parts, and now we’re seeing what college life is like. (I’m not sure either of those are spoilers, but wanted to be safe). The author definitely experimented with the paneling & style a bit as the manga went on.
百合姫2026年3月号 | L24?? was decent. I’m rather mixed on where 彩純ちゃんはレズ風俗に興味があります! | L22 (NSFW) is rn, and I wasn’t thrilled with the latest 今日はカノジョがいないから | L21 - I don’t care about this stupid side character tormenting Fuuko. Give me the Nanase x Yuki drama already!! Otherwise it was enjoyable
百合姫2026年4月号 | L24?? - both ささやくように恋を唄う | L20 (focused on Hajime) and 私の百合はお仕事です! | L26 (focused on Hime & Mitsuki) chapters are great. The new series (残骸少女、きらきらな世界の底 Wreckage maiden, sparkle, bottom of the world) appears to be dystopian and involve androids. Has a surprisingly rough art style. Haven’t started it yet tho
Finished Part 1 of ウィキッド 誰も知らない、もう一つのオズの物語 上 | L35 . It was not the most interesting, but I think the author does a good job of providing description, but not getting too deep. I guess Elphaba’s parents basically have a poly V relationship. That was surprising. Now I’m in Glinda & Elphaba entering school. My comprehension has been a bit iffy in this section. I blame reading while tired and sick.
Does the book describe it as such? Just I felt the film depicted it differently. I don’t want to say too much if you’ve not seen the film/ already know the story.
The book doesn’t give an explicit label to it, but I have seen others describe it as such, and Elphaba Thropp | Wicked Wiki | Fandom says When Elphaba was a toddler, her parents were acquainted with Turtle Heart, a Quadling glassblower, who would later become lover to both. At the very least it’s some sort of consensual non-monogamy in the book. Edit: to be fair it starts with cheating, but develops into something different when Turtle Heart stays with them as Elphaba grows up
I haven’t seen the film, didn’t know it existed tbh.
Ah ok, the film portrays it differently and that becomes important later in the story. I haven’t read the book but assumed (stupidly) that it would follow the same vein as the film which from that, may not be the case.
Still in progress for me. I just have to call out the face Aya gives Mitsuki on page 52. ![]()
That page was hilarious in multiple ways!! ![]()
Actually wait… Is that implying that Aya’s mom is bi?!
I feel like I went through this volume maybe a bit too fast, while being sick. So I’m looking forward to rereading the physical at a more chill pace eventually, once I get it
