It grew on me because I really like the screen printed look of the art in the opening. If you make it to the melodic part of the song it makes the beginning a lot more tolerable
not for me… all 3 parts (intro, rap, and melodic) are equally intolerable
For me the intro is really the only part I find jarring. I get into it if I stick around long enough
Continuing:
- アオのハコ S1 | L24 - still excellent
- Ranma ½ S1 | L25 - still excellent, also though I I seriously hate Ryouga. He might be my 2nd least favorite character in the whole series. Good rival for Ranma, but also really a pretty crappy person
- ソードアート・オンライン オルタナティブ ガンゲイル・オンライン II | L29 - pretty decent so far. It seems to be turning into Pitohui vs Llen again, which I’m not thrilled about
- ダンダダン S1 | L31 - enjoyed the latest episode, but also why is Turbo Baba still around?! Seriously, go away!
- ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか S5 | L29 - not caught up yet
- Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活 S3 | L32 - not caught up yet
Worth checking out for the color palette and animation style alone. I haven’t seen anything like them in anime before. I only watched one ep, and not quite hooked yet, but have a good feeling about it
I’ve never watched yakuza-anything before… I watched 1 ep and DNF’d. It seems pretty interesting, but also I think too much for me. If you’re looking for a chance to practice your kansai-ben, this would be a good choice!
I dropped it after ep 3. I didn’t dislike it, but I noticed I was never *exited* when a new episode came out. If you get any farther than I did lmk if it’s worth picking back up
I could see that… it’s an oddly… subdued(?) kind of show so far. I got through ep 4, and it seems like it’s about to start picking up. However I’ll wait till there’s subtitles available for ep 5 before continuing.
Tbh the fact that it’s so far a really simplistic show is nice for me, bc most of the shows I’m watching require more concentration - but here it doesn’t matter if my mind wanders off for a bit
As a total aside: some show I watched recently had a character named Shiori in it, and this one has a character named Kurumi, and it keeps making me think of AKB0048 S1 | L27 every time I hear either name
The manga is fantastic! I haven’t watched the anime yet, so I can’t compare them. I wasn’t really sold at first, but the story definitely picks up after volume 2. I binge-read the manga in English last week and was very entertained.
The manga for what? 魔法使いになれなかった女の子の話 S1 | L24 only has web novel, light novel (vol 1 just came out in October), and the anime afaict
I just added the LN to the site, tho accidentally marked it as manga
Oh, I made a mistake, sorry! I was talking about 来世は他人がいい.
I always wonder if anyone is watching the same dramas as me since I’m usually the only watcher listed. So I guess I should start posting here and find out.
The currently airing shows I’m watching:
Snowdrop No Hatsukoi
This show is a mess. Nothing that happens make any sense. I’m enjoying it though. I really love a character who knows absolutely nothing. The ML is just what I need.
Rikon Kouya
I see this one getting a lot of negative feedback because the FL is extremely meek. It would normally bother me too. However, her meekness isn’t cutesy or childlike and the ML treats her kindly. So, I don’t mind. Aggressive x helpless pairings are what irritate me.
Usotoki Rhetoric
Period dramas are hard to come by so I absolutely ate that first episode up. The quality is pretty good too! However, it required a lot of lookups for me and each episode is an hour. I don’t know if I have the endurance to continue watching this with native subs. We’ll see.
その着せ替え人形は恋をする
(Anime and Drama)
My Dress-Up Darling
I’m trying to get through the anime because the premise is great. Gojo is the perfect character for me and I like Marin. However, I don’t know if I’ll survive all of the ecchi. Episode 2 was rough. I took a peek at the drama and it seems tamer. We’ll see.
I did try わたしの宝物 but didn’t add it to natively since I don’t think I’ll continue. Even as a person who mostly watches Japanese melodramas, this one was a bit much for me.
I also finished Sugar Dog Life this morning. I initially dropped it because I hated the ridiculously high saturation filter used on the show, but I’m glad I went back. It gave me that perfect, cozy, warm feeling in the end.
There are other dramas I’m watching, but either with English subtitles or very slowly.
I used to be a major drama watcher and burn through a few series a month but I’ve fallen off a lot lately. Maybe in the new year I’ll get back into it that said I have a clear preference for crime dramas and shows about cheating
I’m not going to say that it goes away because it does not. But it does tame itself somewhat as you get to know her more and it’s a good show.
I keep on meaning to try out the drama but I’m honestly kinda afraid of seeing live actors do the story
I agree. I generally don’t like ecchi, but I feel like in this case it serves the story. I really enjoyed the first season and would absolutely watch another season if they make one. Also, if the manga finishes without too many volumes I’ll probably read it as well.
I feel like I heard that a new season was coming, but I’m starting to wonder if what I heard about was the drama
Oh you’re right. A second season was announced, though there’s not even a release year yet.
I meant to read that a while back, but kept putting it off, cuz it felt difficult at the time… Haven’t had much luck w/ JP dramas (I just don’t like the exaggerated acting style), but maybe I’ll try it out. Can I ask where/how you’re watching it?
I read the first two volumes. They were alright, but definitely a bit challenging and I didn’t like them enough to deal with the difficulty.
It looks like we both tried it quite a while ago (11 months for me, and a bit over a year and a half for you). If the 20 pg preview is any indication, I don’t think it should be much trouble at this point. Idk how much more complex it gets after those 20 pgs tho. In any case, it seems easier than certain other mangas I’ve been avoiding. Good to know for the future
My progress in Japanese has been stagnant the last 2-3 years, so it’s unlikely it would feel any different for me than before. Besides, I can definitely read it. It just takes more effort than I want to put in given my middling enjoyment. I do already own volumes 3 and 4 if I ever change my mind though.
There are so many cheating dramas and I am absolutely watching them all. They always speak slowly for dramatic effect which happens to be great for my listening level. Not that I don’t just like the messiness lol. If you do pick one up next year, I’ll probably be right behind you.
Okay, that’s nice to know. I’ll keep going. If most episodes have an ecchi level closer to episode 1 than 2, I’ll be fine.
I don’t blame you. I feel like the charm of an anime rarely translates to live action.
I found out FOD accepts foreign cards, so I’ve been watching all of these dramas there. I don’t know where to watch it free legally.
