My rating so far is 4*, 3*, 4*, and though I have watched just 11 episodes yet, I guess season four will become again 3*.
I cannot really choose which I like more, season 1 or 3, both have their pros. Season 1 is most lovable, it even has a love story between a girl and one of the bad guys, season 3 is most cool, even the “machine girls“ are the most cool, as of now.
Speaking of, the Crystal movie features a modern version of the opening (with the seiyuus singing the lines) that I really like. It’s a lot clearer than the original version (which I also love)
no thanks
I really wish I hadn’t… it was wild, but also mind-numbing. Ah well, not the worst 20 min of anime I’ve watched
Currently watching rewatching (at least the second time ) らき☆すた S1 and I like episode #16 where they make fun of the 「涼宮ハルヒ」シリーズ | L35, especially now that I read volume #1 and can appreciate some of the scenes better.
Really looking forward to this - dark, fantasy yuri, with what looks like very beautiful animation if that trailer’s any indication. May try to read soon, like I’m not reading enough rn
Can’t seem to add it to Natively rn, cuz server issues apparently
Finally got to the end of the Mamo-chan being shitty to Usagi b/c of a maybe prophetic dream arc in 美少女戦士セーラームーン R | L24 . So now I’ve just got 6 eps “required” (acc to this guide) left till the end of the season. I’d check out more of the filler eps, but I’m fairly certain they involve Chibiusa, so no go there.
I finally started this! Only 2 eps in, but so far I love it, and it’s not as hard as I was worried it would be. If you’ve watched other shows with aristocratic characters (esp fantasy), this should be all be mostly familiar. Anyway, very gripping story & protagonist so far
I’ve graduated to 美少女戦士セーラームーン S | L24 now, and whoa it’s such a step up!! The animation, but also little facets of the writing, and a slightly more varied soundtrack, the monsters of the week are more creative. The characters do feel like they’ve grown up a little too - not to mention the complete lack of Chibiusa (I know it’s not forever, but still)! But most importantly Sailor Uranus & Neptune
I’m making myself watch the filler eps this time around, and they’re alright so far. Uranus is well on her way to becoming my favorite, tho she’s kinda cold-hearted about the whole “this person will die if you don’t return their your heart” thing - and they do have the “if you would just communicate the most basic of info…” issue - which always annoys me
I’m torn between Uranus and Neptune as to a favorite. I think I want to date Haruka and be Michiru, but that does sometimes flip depending on the episode
There’s always going to be Sailor Moon drama/trauma, but Super is definitely the flavor of it that I’m most amenable to
It’s a challenge both due to talking speed, and audio quality. 15 min in, and I can’t say for sure it will be interesting, but I’m interested in it even if it’s just for the listening, and historical aspect
Update: I dropped it for now, bc I’d rather save it for when my listening comprehension is better, or at least until I’ve read the original story
I got through the ユージアル arc in Sailor Moon S. Skipped some episodes on the way, so I’ll probably go back and rewatch them. Overall it’s been a pretty enjoyable season - certainly worlds better than R. I’m a little less enamored with Haruka at this point, but I enjoy her from a writing perspective, and it was satisfying to see her get shown up by Usagi
I started the corresponding manga volume, and they’re incomparably different, which got me to watch 2 eps of 美少女戦士セーラームーンクリスタル Season III: Death Busters | L28 . I have to compartmentalize really hard, and not compare it to the 90s. I think I will actually watch more of it tho, since it matches the manga so closely. This way I’ll feel in less of a rush with the 90s one, since I’ll already know (some form of) the main plot. It’s only 13 episodes anyway. Also cuz I wanna see the borderline 浮気 moments animated
Finished 美少女戦士セーラームーン S | L24 - pretty good all around, definitely my favorite season so far. Haruka & Michiru really added a lot, and I even enjoyed Chibiusa this season.
Started 美少女戦士セーラームーン SuperS | L24 four episodes in, and it’s really awful. It’s like someone decided "let’s take the worst elements of previous seasons, make the comedy more childish and dragged out, make the villains into a literal circus, and move on from “sexy lady + object” monsters to “this is basically just an SA metaphor”. Especially after S, it’s a real disappointment - but honestly it’s making me want to go back and watch the R filler or even Crystal instead. So I’m probably gonna revert to watching the minimum required episodes. I am curious for the Amazoness Quartet portion. I’ll finish 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンCosmos 後編 | L28 first, since afaict that’s the same arc (actually that’s 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンEternal 前編 | L30??). Update: I finished Cosmos. It was pretty good, tho I really can’t adjust to Mamo-chan’s VA
Caught up with the いろいろな日本語 Yotsubato series, where he explains the manga panels in Japanese. Nice easy listening
Watched more Flowers 春 playthrough. Enjoyable, and feels a bit easier now. It’s making me wanna play the actual game, but I don’t own it yet
SuperS is better than R, but that’s the best I can say for it. It remains Chibiusa focused (honestly, you could make the case that she’s the main character that season), but the story arc is better imo which is why I think it’s a better season. For me, Stars gets better again, but I do know that a lot of people think SM jumps the shark in the last season. I’ll be interested to see what you think of it. (At the very least it’s incredibly Chibiusa light).
Just finished dandadan. Really enjoyed it. Though ending in the middle of a miniarc on a cliff hanger was annoying.
Season 2 is coming this summer, I’ll definitely watch that.
Also watched solo leveling season 1 recently. It’s trash, but bingeable trash. Natively got it rated as 30, but it really wasn’t that difficult imo.
Finished 美少女戦士セーラームーン SuperS | L24 and left a review. tldr: I skipped most of the first arc, and liked the other half of the season well enough (esp the Amazoness Quartet were fun), but don’t care for the comedy downgrade.
I thought R had a more interesting plot (even if I didn’t care for much of it) and plot distribution. For SuperS the plot was “just okay”. Chibiusa & her mystery pegasus boyfriend, Helios were sweet and interesting enough. The rest of the plot just wasn’t developed enough to really say much of anything interesting. Idk what do you think was done well/better here?
Considering I already saw Uranus & Neptune in the first episode preview, that already bodes much better. And I’m definitely down for less Chibiusa. Anyway, about to start it, so I’ll let you know. Update: 3 eps in. I think I can see why people would think that, and I’m loving this already.
There is the whole Chibi Chibi thing tho, so like is that really any better? I just finished ep 15.
Season 5 thoughts (ep 1-15)
I loved the first 6 episodes - great transition and momentum. The 9 eps since then have been (mostly) pretty good, but they’ve still retained the crappy comedy from S4 that feels dumb, and like it’s trying to hard. Overall I like how 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンCosmos 前編 | L30?? handles the characters and plot better, particularly I found the Starlights more enjoyable there, and you see what’s up with mouse girl’s situation much earlier on. But also it’s cool getting to see the slice of life stuff. Otoh IT’S SO WEIRD NOT HAVING MAMO-CHAN!! And that’s something that’s put to much better use in the Crystal version… tho the borderline 浮気 stuff has been fun here too
I do wanna watch 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンEternal 前編 | L30?? since I accidentally watched part of the 2nd half by accident (which made the whole Hotaru is revived as chibi Saturn, and now living with Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna thing less surprising. I don’t really care for her & Setsuna just disappearing from view for like all of the Starlights’ eps so far. Like it was a big deal that she exists… And then it just doesn’t matter
Also there was that moment where it seemed like Usagi was getting a love letter, and Ami thought she was bi in the first place (でしょう!?) - that was pretty great
