What are you watching today?

Log Horizon is really tough. I got through S1, but with constant lookups. I wanna rewatch the rest eventually, but put on hold for now. I don’t think I’ll do S2 until I’ve either done some jpdb.io prep, or read the corresponding LNs.

Agreed. It took me until ep 6-8 before I was finally into it, and if I hadn’t already been interested (b/c of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle), I probly would have dropped it. Slow pacing is really hard for me, but I’m glad I stuck with it (despite some later frustrations with the show).

Log Horizon has some nasty specific vocabulary and a very roundabout way of saying things.

I’m not super familiar with the genre, but I think the more non-traditional aspects of CCS are to be found in the manga rather than the show.

I haven’t read past ch 1 of the manga (not planning to, tho it looks good), but when I looked up the differences, almost all of my issues with the anime turned out to be the parts where they deviated from the manga. I especially think that the anime-insert character detracts from the story (specifically wrt the development of the two MCs and their relationship to each other), and is somewhat responsible for the pacing issues. Otoh, there is one thing the show left out that I’m really glad of.

I finished シリアルエクスペリメンツレイン S1 | L42??. That was such an emotional roller coaster… the ending though… :smiling_face_with_tear:

I dnf’ed the live action series of 君に届け. How did they manage to make this so boring. :see_no_evil:
I also dnf’ed (for now) 大奥 not because it’s bad, on the contrary, but the language - even with subtitles - is above my level to watch comfortably.

I am up to date with 推しの子, still loving it.
And I started わたしの幸せな結婚 which I think will probably cover the first volume of the LN.

One of my favourite anime!

I suspect it’ll be a while before I have a chance at following it in Japanese though

Netflix sometimes has the weirdest stuff with Japanese audio, which is why I am now watching The Crown S1 | L35??. It doesn’t have CC subtitles, but the subtitles are close enough to use them for comprehension checks. :+1:t2: Although, I am pretty lost when they speak any other language. I am a German native, but that Japanesefied German is Final Boss levels of difficulty. :face_holding_back_tears: Luckily that doesn’t happen often.

I have another Youtuber for you guys. He makes videos about famous people on the internet and Japanese internet memes. The main reason I like him is because I have never seen anyone else on Youtube who enunciates as well as him. I never need captions or anything because his voice is always clear and at a reasonable pace. Even when he is explaining complicated things I can still follow what he’s saying 100%. Would recommend.

Watching やれたかも委員会. It’s pretty formulaic but it’s fun watching the different scenarios play out. Plus I love Mai Shiraishi and Takayuki Yamada.

I stumbled upon incredibly silly shorts about Yahoo知恵袋 and I can’t stop watching:

and

It feels kind of nostalgic too as back when Yahoo Answers was a big thing on the English web there were youtube videos like this too.

Today I watched like every day three episodes of One Piece and the first episode of the Gunbuster OVA.

I just finished Final Fantasy XII, which I played like 70% in JP. All the cut scenes have 字幕, but the in-game dialogue is otherwise unvoiced - so great mix of listening and reading practice. Also a variety of different character accents, some of which I haven’t come across before… And a few of my favorite 声優

My comprehension of the cut scenes was often low, but I got the rough gyst. I found out for the future that there’s scripts with the EN and JP side by side, like ff12trans / TheText (here’s a fuller list as well, tho I think some only have EN.

Hoping to play FF X/X-2 next… But probably gonna wait a few weeks first.

I recently started rewatching

I love how the series is produced and the Snarky main character.
Eventually I want to jump to the light novels, but I think they are probably on the harder side.

I bought the first volume years and years ago and never actually tried reading it since it’s pretty intimidating.

The first 4 volumes have audiobooks (and seem to have the same VA as the anime), so it might be a good way to get your feet wet before continuing on your own.
