Yours puts it at 18. Polls allow up to 20 per poll. I upped the count quite a bit  but it’s b/c others haven’t really added much in past rounds. I hope we don’t go over 20 tho

I was thinking of nominating things. But there are already 5 items on the list I want to vote for, which AFAIK is the number of votes each person gets. And it feel wrong to nominate something that you aren’t going to vote for.

Yeah this is part of why I haven’t nominated a lot. There’s just a lot already on the list that I want to read already :slightly_smiling_face:

When does voting start again btw?

On the 22nd/23rd

Hi everyone!! please note that I added the automatic option this time so sometimes around the evening-night of the 29th (American Time I think?) it closes automatically!
so make sure you vote before the last day or else you’re cutting it close!!!

Uggggh 5 votes is impossible. I’m not nominating anything for like the next round or two :joy:

Btw what’s the rule for what gets put on cooldown? (In case I need to sacrifice a vote, as the deadline gets closer)

You say as if we don’t have 3 timezones :stuck_out_tongue: If you post that part of the code - just the timestamp is fine - I’ll let you know what the time works out to

Close time is “close=2024-11-29T22:00:00.000Z”, whatever that works out to be.

That should be 11/29 18:00 EDT (6pm in Eastern US, 3pm in Western)

ISO 8601 format (which the timestamp is mostly in) is: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS:timezone_offsetZ (T is the symbol for Time, and Z is Time zone).

Idk why the tail of the timestamp looks like .000Z, but either way discourse counts from UTC, and EDT is UTC-4. So 22 UTC is 18 EDT

The numbers after the dot should be the fractional second and Z is a special value for UTC

It was the 3 digits throwing me off, but I guess that’s milliseconds. The Z is just unnecessary here, since no timezone offset is specified (nor does the UI let you specify one)

If no UTC relation information is given with a time representation, the time is assumed to be in local time.

It would be bad if the time were dependent on whatever local time the server has set!

Ahhh somehow I thought it defaulted to UTC, even without. I guess the way it is makes more sense as is tho. Will definitely have to remember that next time I have to torture myself with datetimes

There’s 4 :joy:
And actually 6 if you’re covering all 50 states. (More if you’re counting territories, but I think it’s fair not to).

I blocked Mountain Time out of my head, due to trauma from doing datetime conversions at work (I work remotely, the ppl I work for are in MT region) :joy: actually I’m just exhausted from major apartment cleaning and not enough sleep

And yeah, I was only referring to continental US

(I’m Pacific, but) I feel the need to stand up for my west of the Mississippi peeps from the oppression of EST :joy:

(Yeah I’m aware a lot of that is still central. Time zone regions make no sense :joy:)

Currently there’s a 3-way tie all on books I already own… I’m not sure if I’m elated or terrified :joy::sweat_smile:
