I would like to re-add GIRL FRIENDS, please.

I would also like to renominate 付き合ってあげてもいいか since it’s finished now. If I’m not mixing something up I read quite a few chapters of a fan translation when it was relatively new, liked it quite a bit and I’ve been waiting for it to be completed (and/or my Japanese being good enough) ever since. I explicitly didn’t vote for it when I last had the chance specifically because it wasn’t completed then.

Surprised to discover I’m the one who nominated that, as I still haven’t read it  I’ll probably vote for it this time around

Here will be the updated nominations list

Would like to renominate

Title: 対ありでした。 ~お嬢さまは格闘ゲームなんてしない~ 1 | L28
Book type: manga
Status: ongoing

Content warnings

No idea

Reason(s) for nominating: the story is seemingly fun, but the language is kinda challenging, and seems like it would be fun struggling through this together with ppl, at a reasonable pace

I would like to re-add this one

Could we modify the nominations template to include a “status: ongoing/complete”? It’s just an information I happen to care about.

Only thing is that the information might become outdated. But if you renominate your own nomination, you can just update your own post.

彩香ちゃんは弘子先輩に恋してる 1 | L23 is complete btw.

tbh the template is kept to a minimum on purpose (it was even minimized further once lol)
since we’re reading only the 1st volume even if we do read something out of a series I personally feel like it’s irrelevant to add whether or not it’s complete, but I can try putting it up for vote if other people ask to add it as well

It would only be irrelevant if I knew for sure I want to stop after the first volume. Which is never the case. Whats relevant to me is what I end up reading, not what the club reads. But even then there is often a spin off club reading the whole thing. I’m just much more likely to give something a try if I know how much time it could cost at a maximum and that there isn’t a chance I will have to wait between releases.

The reason I suggested to include this in the nomination is that I find this information frustrating hard to find. It’s not on the learnnatively page and also missing or incorrect on many other database.

The number of volumes is also very relevant to me. But at least that is easy to find.

Otherwise I do think it’s good to keep the nomination template short. For example I see the summary is gone, which is good since that’s also on the linked learnnatively page.

If there’s an anilist/my anime list page for it, they will both tell you if it’s complete or not. They’re usually linked on the Natively page for the book if they have one (but it’s not 100%). Still a bit of a hoop to jump through, but it’s pretty reliable if that’s what you’re looking for.

I always check mangadex.org for this info if I’m wondering - just paste the JP title into search. It’s pretty rare that a manga isn’t on there (especially if it’s on here already), and the status seems accurate anytime I’ve checked. For novels I guess I’d check Wikipedia or MAL?

Which is probably why it’s not in the template, since it makes it harder to nominate things. Personally I’d be pro-including it as an optional field, since it’s a small addition

While I understand where you’re coming from the nominations are in fact for the club to read. Some people even don’t read specific nominations from the club or stop midway a reading.

I honestly recommend using bookwalker for this information. It says 完結 on any finished series regardless of volume number.

Aside from that, like Luna pointed out, this makes it a good reason not to include it since the point is that it’ll be easier to nominate.

I will say though that if there’s no product request on the matter I would definitely make one, it’s a great point.

Edit;
Found it

these tend be to be inaccurate for smaller and particularly untranslated works fwiw. MAL is also REALLY slow to update. Not sure about anilist. I feel anilist is a bit more complete about untranslated things at least. When I went to check an untranslated (and admittedly obscure), MAL didn’t have it at all, anilist had very incomplete info. I added it to mal (now months ago) and it still didn’t get approved. From experience of adding characters, I’m expecting it to take half a year minimum. Anilist I updated the info on and it was done in a few weeks (though some info like the romanization was changed from what I put in for some reason).
Anyway tl;dr: these sites particularly MAL are not that trustworthy especially for unpopular/untranslated series.

I would really appreciate a completed series indicator as well personally.

Would Japanese wikipedia have the answers? I checked on the last manga someone mentioned and it had a start to end date. I think in any case for reliable information you probably have to look for Japanese sites.

To be clear, my scenario is that I use that information to decide what to vote for and read with the club. If it’s complete with one volume I will have read a completed work with the club. If it’s complete with more than one volume, I have to chance to read the complete work either with the club or alone afterwards.

I wouldn’t propose to add anything to the template that’s not relevant for the votes. It just seemed very natural to me. And I do have the impression that short series (and one shots) get more votes, so I assumed others would decide in a similar way. If is just me then let’s forget I mentioned it.

That’s what I often do. But I’m pretty sure it’s sometimes missing.

I agree that it seems like a useful addition, since it may influence members’ votes - and it’s a very small addition, so the template doesn’t get too complicated. (Though I’d also request it be left as “optional/if known”, to keep things easy). I added it to my existing nominations.

Wikipedia is pretty variable for such things. Some pages may be up to date, others woefully outdated. Many series, especially newer ones, just don’t have pages at all

For manga, I think Mangadex is probably the most reliable 3rd party source, and for novels https://www.novelupdates.com/ would be my goto

I forgot to say I would recommend mangaupdates.com for a resource in english. It’s the most accurate and comprehensive by far in my experience.

Really? Tbh the only times I found an “issue” wig this trick was with manga that really weren’t completed but also had publishing issues and were discontinued

Not necessarily

I’ll try doing a vote to see if it’s relevant in that case, that way even if someone isn’t out loud voicing their opinion we can get some sense of what is where

That might be a big part of it. Though I think it’s sometimes with old series in general.

I also have an alternative proposal. Replace Formats with “Notes: optional notes on format, availability, completion status etc”. Then it’s even easier to make nominations as the whole thing is now optional. And it’s more flexible for mentioning things like audiobooks, free version, hard to find physical editions.
