Are there any good yuri anime that aren’t just adaptions from manga or LNs? I looked through my list of watched anime and I don’t see any.

機動戦士ガンダム 水星の魔女 S1 | L30 as well
神無月の巫女 S1 | L27 I liked, but whether or not you can call it good…

I thought Utena was originally a manga. Was it one of those simultaneous release type of things? The anime has so much weird filler that I assumed it was a typical 90s adaption, but AniList lists both the manga and anime as “original”.

It was a simultaneous thing. The weird filler was just Ikuhara being weird.

I changed my vote to yes for anime. I don’t particularly care personally whether something is an adaptation or not, and in some cases I consider the anime to be the better work even though manga is my preffered medium (such as aoi hana, or blue drop). There are also at least two instances I know of where a straight VN got adapted and removed the mc making it yuri (and one more instance where it’s not fully yuri but teasing/fanservice).
There is no reason not to include them if we do VNs. I only am against dramas for the selfish reason that I don’t watch them 
If we do add them however it should be noted whether jp subs are available, I can see that being a big issue.

Think I agree about 青い花 - though it didn’t get through the whole story. Surprised to hear that about Blue Drop (which I dropped due to a mix of difficulty, and thinking it was a mess)
What are the VN adaptations that removed the MC? Don’t think I’ve heard of them
We include VNs here? I mostly haven’t had good luck with dramas, though the two yuri ones I tried seemed likely to be good (I got distracted with one, and couldn’t access the second one)
Good point (and where to find them). Also helpful if people can mention streaming availability if known. JustWatch isn’t always reliable

It’s the sort of adaptation that just takes the world and ideas rather than the plot of the manga. The manga from what I remember is a bunch of short stories and MUCH hornier (I think the anime was pretty tame but it has been 10+ years since I’ve seen it)
The ones I know of: Yami to Boushi to Hon to Tabibito removes male mc and focuses lesbian side character though it also has a lot of other things going on, I wouldn’t recommend it for that aspect alone.
Vlad Love apparently is similiar but I’m not familiar with the game (some sort of phone game?). It’s a comedy with no real romance progression but mc is explicitly a lesbian and into the other lead.
Koihime Musou removes the harem lead protag so it’s just a bunch of girls with some subtext/bait but nothing too serious (at least not in the seasons I watched)
My bad, I thought I saw a vn in the nominations but maybe I was thinking of class s club.

Re: Blue Drop - interesting. I’ll have to take a peak and see what I think. If it still has all the sci-fi babble vocab, that would certainly be helpful for eventually retrying the anime.

Gotcha. I don’t really see any reason not to personally. Tho most of them are longer than any novel anyway, so idk how appealing they’d be, considering only manga have won the polls so far

To be fair, no one posted anything. I only spoke to because all my BC are almost done and I successfully avoided joining any new ones. That means I can finally concentrate more on my own reads. But I’d like at least one new BC.
