2024 Bingo Reading Challenge ☑️

Now that I think about it, I was reading spicy stuff since I was in junior high at least. I remember reading an SF novel recommended by my French teacher that was really wild on that front. So maybe it’s fine?

I know a manga about curry that is fairly spicy too (although I guess it’s mostly just fan service)

Sounds like a great opportunity for @brandon to implement Allow users to see which books they have contributed (and show/hide on public profile).

Prompt Suggestion: Read something that’s won the Akutagawa Prize

(Leaving for posterity, but I think my original suggestion was better.)

Suggested the more focused one since there’s a specific Akutagawa Challenge thread

Are any of the prize winners beginner friendly? I wonder if maybe this could be expanded to any prize to be more inclusive of different learners

My original prompt suggestion was for any prize winner; you are right, this probably isn’t too beginner-friendly. Should I remove it?

Ultimately it will come down to voting, but I personally think any prize is easier to meet for newer learners. 芥川賞 winners tend to be harder books in my experience

One can actually search for the Akutagawa prize winners and then sort by level ascending! (Thanks @brandon for this cool feature!)

But most of them are ungraded (i.e. “Level 30??”) so this does not help as much yet. The simplest one is むらさきのスカートの女 at Level 27 (which I actually slightly doubt after having just read the first section ) followed by コンビニ人間 at Level 29.
Naoki Prize starts at Level 28 with 花まんま (https://learnnatively.com/search/jpn/books/?tags=naoki&sort=level_asc) and Honya Taishou clocks in from Level 27 with a bunch of books (https://learnnatively.com/search/jpn/books/?tags=honya&sort=level_asc) so yes, extending this to a winner of these three prizes will definitely leave more choices for less experienced readers.

Thanks for all the fantastic prompt ideas, everyone! Now it’s time to vote!

I’ve created separate polls containing all the options. You may select up to 18 options per poll. However, I encourage everyone to be strategic with their voting and use less votes than available since there can only be 16 winners. Remember, I will take the 16 prompts with the most votes from all polls, and select randomly from any tied for last place.

Voting is set to close next Thursday at end of day.

So, without further ado - let’s go vote!

Surely these should be separate?

Oops you’re right, formatting error. Let me see if I can still fix that…

Edit: Yes I could, still in time!

Maybe it has been answered before in the sea of replies, but I can’t find it.

Can the same book be used to check more than one box in the bingo card?
