Any interest in a CLAMP book club?

I was in Tokyo a few weeks ago and saw CLAMP’s exhibit, so I’ve been thinking about reading through CLAMP’s catalog. Wondering if there’s any interest in starting a CLAMP book club?

I don’t know that I’d join in on everything*, but I do love CLAMP and would join (or comment on favorites) with a group. It’d give me an excuse to buy more of their manga too

*In particular, I think I need a pretty long cooldown on Cardcaptor Sakura :sweat_smile:

Agree about CCS. I got through most of the first series, but I fell off because there were a few too many teacher-student relationships that had me feeling a little nauseous lol

I might be in, but there are a few titles of them that I’d probably skip (either because to me they are too convoluted (like Tsubasa reservoir chronicle) or not my cup of tea (like Kobato))

Tsubasa (and X) I’d say should be later things we read since they pull in a lot of characters from other stories. If we ever got through that many manga anyway

That was my thought as well. I’ve read X (in English) before, but I would like to read some of the other manga that are referenced, like CLAMP学園探偵団[愛蔵版] | L25??, but I don’t have super strong feelings one way or another.

There’s also 東京BABYLON―A save Tokyo city story 1 | L24?? from X. I at one point had that set but gave it away because it doesn’t have furigana and thought I’d never be able to read it…

I might be interested in reading Kobato, but I think it’s out of print and the digital quality isn’t great. Other than that, probably not since their most popular series are a bit long for my taste.

Yeah I wish the digital scans were better quality it’s so annoying

They’re doing a ton of re-releases lately so there’s a chance we could get a new one…

Quickly scanning through their catalog, these are also pretty short, as well:

Definitely interested. Would particularly love to do Magic Knight Rayearth, but down for anything

Isekai before it was overdone!

Apparently I already have the first volume of this. Must have gotten it for free at some point.

GATE 7 | L24?? only has 4 books (and I have them all already so I might be particularly interested in reading them )

Always down for Rayearth. I read it (with a very loose definition of “read” since I did a lot more looking at pictures) as a teenager and I don’t think ever since.

I started reading Rayearth years ago as my first manga in Japanese but then I pivoted to Sailor Moon because I wanted that to be first one I finished lol, so I never finished reading Rayearth. I would definitely be interested in returning to that

If we go with Rayearth, any thoughts on when to start or what the schedule should be?

There’s 6 books total… I think somewhere between half a book to a full book a week puts us on a reasonable trajectory to finish the series and move on to others.

For starting times it’ll depend on if people want to try and get the physical books or not, but 3-4 weeks I think is usually what other clubs do.

I think there’s a lot fewer of us here though, so we could be a little less formal if we wanted to.

Rayearth was one of the first manga I read in Japanese, so I might be up for a nostalgic re-read (I still have the books I bought in book-off when I was first in Japan in 2004). We could also read the first three only, since it’s more “original series plus sequel series” rather than a single six book series.

I thought it was just the first three, I forgot there was a second series. In any case, I’m OK with reading just the first three or all six, whatever others are interested in doing. I also think a book per week is reasonable.

I always forget that they are technically two series. I’d be fine with just doing the first 3. That way we could get to another series quickly.
