Powered through the end of 消えた初恋 S1 | L22 so I could just be done with it. Ended up being extremely meh for me, so I’m looking forward to hopefully starting 薬屋のひとぎごと next.
薬屋のひとりごと is such a great show!! Hope you enjoy
Aaaaagh Netflix doesn’t have JP subtitles included. @.@ I’ll have to field test episode one, see if I can understand anything whatsover.
Edit: wow, this intro song is way poppy.
Really?! If you have VPN, Netflix JP definitely has them. Otherwise https://jimaku.cc/ should - you’d just have to load an extension like ASB Player or language reactor, or whatever else is out there.
So far I’ve managed 2h 30m today finishing また、同じ夢を見ていた before my lesson earlier.
Decided to start 本を守ろうとする猫の話 as my next listening/ read along.
Will update this post later with my additional listening time.
Added another 19m for the first chapter of 本を守ろうとする猫の話. Think I will be listening to this a few times to try to get a better understanding of it before moving on to the next chapter.
Total for today: 2h 49m
I think I’m going to have to wait until my listening is better, unfortunately. (Or Netflix adds subtitles.) If I didn’t already know the plot, I wouldn’t have been able to follow much, sadly. The options you gave are good easy ones, but my setup isn’t computer-based at the moment, so I’ll have to just keep them in mind in case the opportunity arises.
I’d do the same. It’s a challenging show even with subs (I’m on S2 and keep procrastinating the remaining, cuz it’s the 2nd hardest show I’ve watched)
I usually watch on my TV and cast the browser window to my TV when I use ASB. If you’re on a phone/tablet, most VPNs have an app that you could use (or you could figure out how to configure the native VPN client on the device).
As a side note: wtf is up with all these recent shows without jp subs? I get it for like Pokemon where the show was significantly localized, but I’ve come across this with 五等分の花嫁 | L24 also.
I’ve been watching on TV with a plug-in Roku; I do have a desktop hooked up via HDMI, but I’d need to sit down and work out a process to try to make it as painless as possible, since I’m typically watching when I’m tired.
I watched episode 6 of 무브 투 헤븐: 나는 유품정리사입니다 S1 | L21?? today.
I’m watching with Korean subtitles using Language Reactor, so I mostly try to understand the audio, then look at the subtitles, then hover over the words I don’t know to get the translation and if I still can’t make sense of the sentence I look at the translation. It’s not a perfect system, but it does allow me to massively up my listening input, and I figure at some point I’ll get better and not rely on full sentence translations so much.
Exceptionally today, I went on a long commute in public transport, so I’ve listened to 3 hours of Nihongo con Teppei Original. I am now at episode #75.
Of course the first day this starts, I had various doctors appointments go long and it might end up being the first day in months I don’t comfortably hit 6 hours of Japanese!
I finished up both 大室家… movies? OVAs? today so far, and as I am going by my tracking app, 3 ゆるゆり OVAs snuck in as well just past the starting line.
Puts me at 3:47 for today so far. Going to sneak in a couple easy Podcasts after before calling it a day, but I still havent touched any of my SRS reviews for today so it might be tight. I try not to exceed 6 hpurs even when motivated, leave time for other things.
EDIT: Final time: 4:20 on Anime, 0:51 on Podcasts. Not tracking for this, but 0:49 for SRS stuff. I figure I’ll go harder now when I have time and motivation, then if I don’t feel like hitting 3 hours in a day 3 weeks form now, it’ll be okay.
I may get some additional listening in later but otherwise I’m done for the day:
Spirited away - 2h 5m
Prologue of 本を守ろうとする猫の話 - 19m
Total for today: 2h 24m
Running total: 5h 13m
Edit:
I actually found I was able to keep up with and understand most of Spirited away without the subtitles. I do already know the story but this time it felt like I wasn’t translating, just understanding. I’ll need to check with a few other things and see if those have improved as well.
A pleasant surprise for me - I’m up to 5 hrs now, and half of that is fantasy audiobooks (remainder of 本好きの下剋上 1, and beginning of ソードアート・オンライン4 フェアリィ・ダンス | L34).
本好き was easy, and I played on 1.5x mostly. SAO 4 is comfortable enough (especially with vocab reviews), but playing at normal speed and I have to focus, and occasionally pause. My memory of the story is definitely helping a bit.
桜蘭高校ホスト部 S1 | L27 is great too - lots of new vocab, but it has subtitles (unlike Sailor Moon).
Overall I wanna get in a lot more audiobook hours (other highly text-dense content, like 声優ラジオ shows or interviews) this month. Not sure if I’ll set a specific goal or not, and I’ll still watch lots of anime either way.
Today: 55 mins of drama by watching 嘘ときレトリック (you can read my review here) and 3×20 mins of Nihongo con Teppei Original. I’ve also started listening a bit to the episode #78 so that rounds me up to 2 hours of listening today.
By the way, watching the 5th episode of 嘘ときレトリック puts me at 555 total episodes watched, funnily enough.
due to the historical setting, all(?) on-screen text uses 旧字体
Ohhh there’s a word for that!! I love 旧字体 (tho it sounds probably annoying in a TV drama)
What service were you watching on?
The Slovenian cat service. To be fair, that also played greatly in my reasons for stopping the show. Since it has stopped airing on TV, it’s become harder to get my hands on it.
苦しすぎる…… 死んじゃった 笑
Took me a good 10 min to figure out wth I was looking at I get it now… Some parts are ok, and others are just suffering
