Also, I didn’t mention it in my thoughts above, but does it feel like they’re trying to push a “no we’re definitely not trying to get the reader to imagine a 神官長xMyne romance” angle at times? The author did with Benno for sure, so I’m curious what the intent is here: does the author just feel like some amount of romance is necessary? Is she(?) just trying to build up for when Myne does get her heart stolen by a sentient book a man reading a book in a library who ignores her?
We might be trailing behind you, depending on how fast you’re reading through the book, but of course feel free to post thoughts whenever you’d like! I’d love to hear another person’s opinion on some of Myne’s shenanigans, haha.

This happens to me, too; I end up jotting down my thoughts as I go and, at the end of the chapter, going back and tidying it all up and whatnot.
You’d think the 神殿長 would pick someone older than 12 years old (or however old she is) to be his spy, but given that a) Myne herself is a tiny little toddler, and b) the church is really hurting for staff right now, I guess she was his best choice.
Like I don’t think the 神殿長 is that dedicated at the moment. Myne is an annoyance, and a “big revenge would be nice” though is probably there, but I think by and large he has filed her under 神官長の問題 at this point, and is satisfied to just get petty revenge.
When I saw volume 5, I thought you were all way ahead of me on 第二部５ but when I saw the chapter titles I realised you’re doing continuous numbering, so I am actually on 第二部４ of the junior novels, which is the latter half of this main series volume. I think this is actually the last one I’ll read in the junior novels as the end of this one aligns with the end of 第二部２ in the main volumes.
My boy フラン got some very smooth validation from his (ex) master! マイン did great job in pushing all the right buttons to get him on her side. I love that we have also established basic understanding between them and did it in the span of the same day.
On the other hand, we had Benno & Ferdinand in one room! 目の保養 (if only we had some visuals here too sob sob). The temple perceiving Myne as violent and scary never gets old, let’s keep it up lol.
Save as much of Myne’s money as you can, Benno!
I am deeply worried by these constant problematic romantic relationships nobles seem to have. From the kids planning to be a mistress thing in フリーダ and ダリア’s cases, the contract marriages the blue robed mikos were pulled out from the temple for, 神官長 being a kid from a mistress (and that being the reason to push him into the temple) and now an assumption that a 5-ish years old looking マイン can be a love interest of our amazing ベンノ?
We keep saying that マイン has to go to the nobles to keep living and from the way it sounds being a woman is pretty bad there rn.
At the same time a couple of funny romantic events (not really) between マイン and ベンノ (notes passing and hizamakura) were a good reminder that she is older on the inside, even if she’s not into ベンノ (or anyone yet, thank God, that would be very disturbing at the moment).
(A couple of pages after I made this note Benno told Myne that he thinks that Ferdinand is 22-23 or less, while Myne thought the poor guy is 30 from his position and vibes. Poor guy…)

ヴィルマをください is the first chapter of 第二部３ in the junior edition, and also to my understanding the first chapter of 第二部２ in the full edition, which makes it volume 5 overall since 第一部 had 3 volumes?

Yes. To my annoyance. Not only is she what, 7? if we’re going to say that she’s old enough to have romantic feelings for someone, I don’t think she’d actually care. She would drop any potential partner for the chance to just be in the same room a book without a second thought.

Not much to report with フェシュピールとロジーナ, other than the fact that this must be a new record for Myne screwing herself over in terms of displaying otherworldly knowledge. And it’s oddly nostalgic now when she started brainstorming ways to make 絵本/教科書 with limited technology.
ロジーナ is definitely a study in Urano transmigrating into basically any other situation that her current one, what with the obsession with music and inflexibility.
I was literally thinking the same thing A year or two ago, I kept seeing that series and thought I’d give it a try, and then just nope’d out of it.
Yes, 2 junior volumes are (with some slight variations) equal to one normal volume. So 2nd arc 4th junior volume is the second half of the 2nd arc 2nd (normal) volume.

… I just checked and this is it. This is the volume where I started shipping 神官長xMyne. I remember typing a long ass “hear me out” on the WK forum but I don’t remember if I posted it or not. That ship has colored my reading of the whole freaking series (as in, I kept thinking “okay, first thing, you need to stop being a kid, can we just skip to that point” among other things, but that’s still coloring).
Y’all are still early in the book, so I know I’m already saying too much. Please ignore that.

No, now you have me intrigued in how this might be going! I’m curious if the author will manage to override my memory of Myne sitting in the 神官長’s lap only two volumes ago. Age gap is not usually my thing, so I’m curious. 神官長 is good-looking enough he lives rent-free in my head anyway.
Assuming chapters average the same length they have been the last couple of volumes, it’ll likely be 2/day if I’m not busy.
At almost halfway through volume 5 I’m shipping it. It was at the end of volume 4 when she noticed he had a name that I thought, hold on a sec. And then somewhere in this first half of volume 5 there’s a scene that made me think, “this is someone who can keep up with her intellectually.” Also he has the rank to suit the person she’s obviously going to become.
That may or may not be one of the main reasons for that to happen, but I am indeed curious to see how you all feel about the situation after this volume.
I hadn’t really even thought of that. I was mostly reminded that Delia was an absolute terror when she first became Myne’s 側仕え and now she’s off tattling on the new one
And here we get some more data on how exactly マイン’s clothes end up looking so bad - aside from being hands down from トゥーリ the clothes commoners wear are second-hand in general.
A very cozy & adorable chapter otherwise. I can’t believe マイン said she didn’t study fashion despite reflecting on reading about color theory and fashion magazines. Sweetie, come on…
Vol 4. ルッツの怒りとギルの怒り
After the cozy chapter and all the plans to make マイン’s life better seeing デリア again was very underwhelming. マイン got you clothes you evil creature, and we couldn’t even get to that

I love how マイン that is definitely not used to physical fighting from the real world has by now learned how this usually goes in 下町 and had that ingrained enough to not see any problem with the approach. That means that she adapted enough to be blindsided again by the whole “no violence” approach.
We are finally getting to the core of ギル’s problems and hey, objectively speaking this is day 2 on the new work, we’re progressing very nicely.
Vol 4 与えるべきもの + some blurred stuff we will know about the Orphanage soon that adds color to this chapter
「君は物置に客を招くつもりか!?」 (c) the beginning of many, many, many times 神官長 will be deeply shocked by マイン’s… Everything. cackles
So from watching the anime I already know that the food situation in the Orphanage is absolutely horrible.
But thanks to that I appreciate even more how throughout the chapter there is some undertone to “マイン you might not realize…” together with “well, we did tell you. Kinda. Sorta. A bit”. They did say the food goes: blue robe → そば使い→ Orphans and I think we can do the math already. From that and from ギル’s outrage…
But also people (1) don’t want to tell her anything and (2) フラン specifically totally went “as you wish, my lady" "no need to feed that guy, my lady”.
Finishing the chapter by saying 孤児院で保障されている衣食住より先に she should give him praise and all is really screwing the whole Maslov pyramid - wow it hurts. For the food reasons but also just because these orphans really don’t get any parental love at all. We have said they are used like slaves and have no right so maybe comfort and affection are actually the way to go.
And some comedy by Gil: “I did the work! …not there! And not there either! Can you like look at the WORK I did and not at all the other places now please???”. Poor baby.
