Spoilers should always be hidden using spoiler blur.
When discussing a specific section, please mention where you are in the book, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting, but please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week.
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That’s a welcome part of the discussion too, and other readers will be happy to help.
I absolutely loved the flashback and how he described the reason for the sakura color! it was interesting
page 132-133 was funny both sei chan and hokuto chan know the relationship is disgusting yet they do it for fun haha
My enjoyment didn’t change despite the fact I had already read it more than 10 years ago.
We already get a glimpse of the real relationship between subaru and sei chan and I can’t wait to see more of it
also more of sei chan without glasses becuase he looks hot
If anyone has a doubts about continuing with the manga or not YOU SHOULD continue because trust me it gets better (and it’s short & not hard so that’s a bonus)
No worries! Make sure to add a link in the home post as well!
I liked this section a lot more than I thought I would at well; it was very atmospheric.
I’m struggling more than I expected to for sure, at least in terms of maintaining interest. I empathize with @暁のルナ now when they were having issues keeping interest with Rayearth.
Gotta really disagree on the not hard, at least based on the first 2 chapters. It’s been a while since I felt the need to repeatedly check the translation for a manga
I feel like I was the one dissenting voice there (and in the reviews) lol. I’m glad I pushed through though, even if I grumbled a lot, during and after (and looking back, I can selectively remember just the good parts now)
Honestly I think the biggest thing really tamping down my interest is the apparent lack of an overarching plot so far; the “exorcism of the week” vignettes are not particularly interesting to me, and I have yet to find any quality in 北斗 that makes me glad when she appears on-screen.
I have to agree; it’s not technically that difficult, but it feels like conversations are more…concise? Briefer? Lacking just a slight amount of context? That I would expect in an easier work. Not sure how to phrase it.
So Seishirou is totally the person from the flashback right? There’s no other way that could go, is there? But if so, it feels even creepier, given the ages. Then again, it didn’t seem like a romantic flashback, but it did seem… ominous? predatory? Wasn’t there something in the first chapter about them having clashing/star-crossed lineages or something? Definitely wonder why Seishirou feels the need to hide it, if he was actually the person
I guess the age gap stuff is certifiably just a gag, even in-universe? That’s a bit reassuring
The art style and symbolic stuff in the flashback reminded me of Tsubasa a lot, so that was a plus for me
In general, I think Subaru is endearing and I love his earnestly. I’m finally getting better at telling the siblings apart. The age gap jokes still feel like they make up a good 40-60% of the chapter, which just seems like a waste to me. I don’t really find Seishirou that interesting, and I feel like Hokuto is a humor device, rather than an actual character. She doesn’t really seem to have any consistent personality besides being obsessed with pairing Subaru and Seishirou. I wouldn’t say I dislike her, but Subaru is the only character who feels like they have any depth so far. Or maybe I just have a type
I’m assuming there’s some larger plot brewing, and seeds being planted bc it’s CLAMP. I wouldn’t say I’m disinterested, but I wouldn’t say I’m totally hooked yet either.
The flashback scene finally hooked me. Probably not for its face value, but because I’ve read X before and I have a bunch of guesses as to where the plot here could go based on how loose the character bonds are between the two.
I’m hoping that there’s more character development coming up, because I feel similar. It was fine for a chapter or two to understand the characters, but I’ll be bored pretty soon if there’s 6 more books of this. tbf, it was two chapters and then we did maybe start getting towards a bigger plot so I suppose I can’t complain
fwiw I’m reading a different version and this was the end of the book and my gradings put it at 25. I think that’s a little high, but I also think it’s harder than チェーンソーマン which I’m also currently reading and that’s 24 with a ton of grades, so maybe 25 is about right.
ツバサ 1―Reservoir chronicle 1 | L24 is L24 (which seems low to me, but it’s been well over a year and a half since I read it, so I’m probably overestimating) - so yeah, somewhere around there I guess.
It’s like @eefara said “conversations are more…concise? Briefer? Lacking just a slight amount of context?” In a sense it’s more realistic to how ppl who know each other well would actually speak to each other. And some of it is just cultural context I’m missing. The 3rd chapter felt a lot easier than the first 2 tho.
