A couple more lists that may be of interest!
Another BLU reading list! Needs a bit of tidying up after the newly-added items are approved, and maybe some more titles added… And @eefara, added you as a collab
Characters we can relate to!

I have a silly contribution: 百合好きくんと百合好き好きくん by U-temo. Despite the name, if I remember correctly, it’s as much about BL as about Yuri. It has both a fujoshi character and whatever you call a male Yuri fan.
Oooh, new lists have dropped. Thank you for adding me! Gotta go take a look~
Edit: Oof; the 1980s reading list has increased drastically from the 70s list. @.@ And what do I see here but Banana Fish, haha. Just brings to mind all of our past discussion with @Naphthalene on its BL status. Does make me wonder how many would need to be cut from the list if we were able to work through it all; are you sourcing all the info from Wikipedia @bilbiothecary? Or elsewhere?
Yo, I also see 聖伝-RG VEDA-[愛蔵版] | L24?? on that list; CLAMP experts, is it (early) BL? And dang, didn’t realize 東宮千子 was publishing that early…
It’s been quite a while since I last read this book on the list (cough I was surprised to see this added to Natively ) but I don’t remember the main character being much in the way of a 腐男子; iirc he read more as a stereotypical geek more than anything, and even that was pretty token, so you might be safe to remove it.
Am I misremembering or is the main character from Princess Jellyfish a 腐女子?
Added!
Yeah, I think for 80s onwards we might have a cap of 20 or 25? And maybe have an “extra credit” list for overflow…
Done!
Mangaupdates
Nah; all the girls are 腐女子, but they’re using the general definition of “rotten girl”: they’re all basically just otakus for specific things, not BL in particular.
Oh, and I was updating the nomination list @shablul and noticed that ガンバレ! 中村くん! ! (EDGE COMIX) | L24?? now appears to be under a different publisher? I wasn’t able to access the regular Kindle version link on the Natively page, which I thought was really weird because I didn’t peg that book as likely to have much hot sex and I’m really hoping Amazon isn’t thinking of IP blocking me again, and after looking on Amazon found what appears to be the new listing (which has really cute covers :3). Looks like the second book was also re-titled, so maybe the series is going to continue past it?
The question is how to determine what makes that cutoff point without having read the stuff in it. We’ll also definitely need to consider this for later decade lists as well; I wonder if we could start only listing books with a certain amount of sales, overseas translation, anime/movie adaptions, etc?
Ah, excellent; they’re a surprisingly good resource.
Yeah, I think a mixture of popular and notable works would be good, and maybe limiting authors to one work per (main) list. I’m sure there are probably some works that only have hints of BL, but we won’t really know until someone reads them and can provide some feedback - we can always move things around later on, though.
I might just go through the 80s list just now and move some to a new extra credit list.
hopefully! it’s really cute!!
edit:
the new cover gives off a “it’s gonna continue” vibe tbh
(since it leaves a whole lot of space for different poses and faces and etc
so it’s cute and a minimalistic, which offers a lot of space to work with onwards to whatever number of covers the author wants)
edit2:
THERE’S AN OFFICIAL ANIME COMING
THAT’S WHY
Oooh, nice! I’ll probably check the books out regardless of if it gets picked for club.
Moved some manga over to a new list, namely those that were:
So the main list is down to 27 entries!
Woo-hoo! お疲れ様~ I like your selection criteria, too!
Edit: why is the new list tagged with “blu”?
Boys’ Love University!
Not to be confused with the beloved BL imprint, RIP
Whoops, that makes sense. I was indeed thinking of the publisher, not the acronym.
Ahhh… ok
I haven’t seen the anime in 10? years or so (and the manga is still a struggle and I don’t struggle read manga), but for some reason I remember her saying 腐女子 in the anime (wonder why ), and with the themes of it I was wondering if that was also her thing, but then it also seemed like that was a lot for one character. At least I wasn’t completely wrong
A couple of the 80s BL manga are available to read for free:
The mangaka says in the afterword that things should wrap up with volume 3. For what it’s worth, neither volume ends at a massive cliffhanger imo. ^^
It’s a beautiful manga.
(There’s big gaps between volumes though… I think 4/5 years between 1&2 and now already 6 since 2.)
I feel vindicated by the fact that even on chill-chill, there’s at least one revue that mentions that its BL status is disputable (even though that one review was arguing in favor of it being BL).
At least, I’m glad it’s not that there’s something I am not seeing, it’s more like people are satisfied with that level of bromance between the main characters to call it BL.
I was wondering why it didn’t change its background color, but I found the mistake
Me suddenly getting the urge to go through the whole list so that I can complain about everything. I’m doing this for your own good and not because I’m …
It’s currently on sale on bookwalker:
LINK
(need VPN to access, though. bookwalker trying to keep us from the good stuff… )
It’s also half off on Amazon!
You guys need to mentally prepare yourselves for when I can just read level 30ish books like I would in English. There will be so much of this in here
