Hmm, I wasn’t particularly planning on joining this one but I do have the first volume of Zenitendou. I ended up dropping it, but perhaps with a club I could read it to the end.

I’m going to have to pass after all.
I’m reading wayyy too many other things right now

A girls’ detective story by Hoshiosane, who has a reputation for making people’s hearts warm and fuzzy.

Content Warnings

Not that I know of.

Reason(s) for nominating: I bought this one on a whim because I like supernatural detective kid’s stories and the art in this is really cute! There’s no furigana though, so that might be off putting to some. But I think the writing style is pretty easy (I have only read a few pages, though) and the Kanji aren’t too out there – It is part of a series, so there are more books.

Content Warnings

Not aware of any. Supposedly “scary” and the publisher recommends reading during morning for children so they don’t get nightmares, but that’s about it. Still aimed for 小学校中学年から

Reason(s) for nominating: Recently released, I usually like these Tsubasa Bunko that have the こわい話 tag

BTW @bibliothecary, 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 (角川つばさ文庫) 「涼宮ハルヒ」シリーズ(角川つばさ文庫) | L36?? now has a natively link. Previusly the Tsubasa Bunko edition didn’t have one, and it redirected to the normal version.

Great! I’ll update it.

And also I’ll edit the nomination post, seems like the tsubasa bunko is in stock in Amazon for those who rather have physical

It has the wrong cover though, so take with a grain of salt, maybe is the wrong book.

pretty sure it’s not actually the つばさ version. The ISBN is wrong. Should be: 4046310286

Yeah just cross-referenced with my physical I bought in 2021, still the title is wrong, but the ISBN is a strong indication it might just be a title error, as Amazon uses ISBNs as ASIN for physical books.

(As of November 2020)

Content Warnings

For what I have read around, is toned down version, but still possibly contains torture and murder.

Reason(s) for nominating: Found this on my last trip to Japan on a book-off. Didn’t know there was a Junior version of the light novels. There’s currently on-going in the VN club, so it might overlap for some, although there aren’t that many participants over the VN Club, for most it won’t be an issue.

Content Warnings

None known

Reason(s) for nominating: Often held up as the first Japanese book you should read (terrible advice, but I digress), I’ve had this on my shelf forever and started it a few times before. I love the movie and would like to actually get through the book.

I’ve noticed that the Korean version is on Storytel. So, about the level, do you think it would still be L25 without accounting for the lack of kanji that I saw a lot of people mentionning, or if it’s relatively simple and that’s the thing that bumps its level up? I’m wondering if I should try to listen to this audiobook, but that’s just not gonna go well if it’s actually L25 and I can’t use the text as a reference, as my listening comprehension is still behind my reading comprehension level.
