Hi Guys!
I need your help with page numbers, the version I have is cmoa and doesn’t have page numbers at all, just precentage (since it’s completely digital, you can change fonts and everything…)
I’m making a poll for the pace!
Since the font was big and the stories seemed short + furigana I assumed that 2 stories a week will work. Hence I’m checking with you guys if you want slower or not (not gonna make it faster though, I won’t keep up lol)
The book is on sale at Amazon right now (I think that’s half off). iirc, the Bookwalker version requires a VPN to view and put into your cart so I didn’t check, but it might be on sale there too.
I wonder if these stories are based on actual interviews with said people or if it’s some kind of childish retelling of their story with some inventive imagination.
Like that “my family doesn’t get along but I imagine the people of the Jōmon period being a big happy family to cope with it” storyline for example.
Regardless, I was honestly expecting a much more informative book rather than stories of the people discovering them tbh lol
I started this book last year so I’m gonna pick up once you all catch up to me (in a few weeks I think), esp since I just read the history of Japan manga
I think this becomes more historical pretty quickly, once we get to actual written records (as opposed to anthropology, which stories of Jomon actually are).
Only just now noticed!
Since I copy pasted it probably copied the furigana as well and I didn’t notice!
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll fix it when I’m on the PC later today
I’m slowly making my way through this. This is one of the first non-textbooks that I’ve really attempted to read and I’m switching between looking up most new words to just letting it wash over me. For context I’m on Chapter 2 of Quartet and passed the N4 a few years ago (and then stopped reading? Not sure what was going on in my life that that’s what I did - the start of burn out?).
I ended up having a much easier time with the second chapter than the first. Part vocabulary, part getting used to reading books? Either way I’ll take it.
Edit: finished last weeks reading (including the pull out section) and found this is much more my level now than it was before.
Will read week 2 pages later or tomorrow.
Edit2: finished this weeks reading too. Was interesting to read the historical side of a character that was previously featured in a game as a mythical being.
This was made a little easier since I just read the history manga, but, ugh, so many names and places. My Japanese history knowledge doesn’t start kicking in until around the Heian Jidai. I mean, partly what the text was saying, how much of this is history and how much of this is myth is hard to know, outside of what archeology can uncover.
What I do find interesting about this period is that the only history comes from China, so there’s a lot of “in this letter, such and such says”. And then they have to construct full histories from that.
